News and notes from around the interweb:
- Man arrested at Portland airport baggage claim failing to be master of his domain.
- Ouch.
The Airbnb collapse is real.
Revenues are down nearly 50% in cities like Phoenix and Austin.
Watch out for a wave of forced selling from Airbnb owners later this year in the areas hit hardest by the revenue collapse. pic.twitter.com/xjGkj7bFC5

- Loudon County residents complain about noise from Washington Dulles airport. The airport was built in the exurbs, and opened in 1962. Planes aren’t as noisy as they used to be.
Show me residents living there for over 60 years suffering more noise now than in the past and those people might have a claim of some kind, but just offer to buy those people out – restrictions on airport operations the county is asking for shouldn’t be the answer.
- More UFO whistleblowers
- Watch out for fake American Airlines on twitter.
- Service dog slumbers under duvet in British Airways business class
- Flight attendants union head on board American Airlines with legacy US Airways flight attendants – whom she used to represent, and would like to again.
Happy that the DCA ramp is closed to keep the ground crew safe, we have cheerful @afa_cwa lifetime members working the flight, and passengers are chill and understanding. #FlySafe pic.twitter.com/CiRB7K6Z9p

Part of the reason for PHX is that the cities (except Glendale and they are the worst managed city in the valley) are requiring background checks, short term rental licenses, etc. . . we who call the valley home year round are sick of the wild parties, shootings and drug deals being made in otherwise safe and quiet neighborhoods. Don’t expect, PHX , Scottsdale, Mesa, Goodyear, Peoria, Surprise, Chandler or Gilbert among others to back down and look for more short term restrictions coming. We love to have you visit, but do so with respect.
Also, we have a huge housing shortage so many of these properties are being sold to year round residents or new to valley residents. The price drops are also do to home in Glendale and the like are not in great areas so know where you are renting before you do so.
PDX, just providing some typical Portlandish hospitality in baggage claim. There’s plenty more of the same downtown, too.
People are tired of bait-and-switch with AirBnb properties and the company does nothing to protect owners or renters. No shortage of chain hotel rooms in these cities.
A greedy developer built a gigantic residential subdivision at the end of the runway (12/30) IAD uses primarily for departures. County officials approved a zoning change to allow this. Now the FAA and MWAA are supposed to change how flights depart?
Welcome to Portland, Oregon. Watch your back. The crazy people aren’t just swinging their own sticks. Hitting tourists in the head is a sport among local vagrants, and people have been injured and killed.
I grew up ~5 miles east as the crow files from IAD. Normal airport noise was almost non-existent for us…except for the Concorde. Which started flying out of Dulles a year or two my parents bought the house. Suffice to way, we knew *exactly* when that plane took off because that plane was LOUD on takeoff, even at that altitude.
How you can move to Loudon County and miss that you’re near Dulles is beyond me. You have to pass it going west if you’re looking at the neighborhoods under the noise-umbrella, and if you’re looking at a house, you should have heard planes to begin with. It is NOT a small airport, and all the major roads have signage for the airport.
