Delta Air Lines flight 2432 from Atlanta to New Orleans turned to chaos on Wednesday shortly before landing as a passenger put a flight attendant in a chokehold and threated to decapitate her with broken glass that he held against her neck.
The passenger had been bleeding from his neck and cab crew sought medical assistance before he grabbed one of the crew. He’d reportedly cut his own neck.
Eight other passengers sprang into action to detain the man until he was taken into custody, while the flight attendant was treated for two cuts and didn’t require hospitalization.
According to Delta Air Lines,
Delta flight 2432 operating from Atlanta to New Orleans was met by law enforcement personnel upon landing following a reported customer issue onboard. Delta has zero tolerance for unruly behavior on our aircraft and in our airports. Nothing is more important than the safety and security of our people and our customers.
🚨#BREAKING: Bloody passenger subdued aboard on Delta Airlines flight

The man has been charged with aggravated battery, disturbing the peace, and simple battery.
Charges seem a little weak for this. Aren’t there a federal charges regarding assault on an airline employee that are more severe?
What did I just read? That, and, for over twenty years, I’ve been wondering about the sharp (or even dull) metal knife ban theatrics, when broken glass simply can happen, and here, does.
Hopefully he was banned for life.
There’s going to come a day when EVERY passenger will have to get a Mental Health Exam before boarding. The Flight Attendants will appreciate that.
It is time to rewrite and enforce “hijacking” laws. 20 years in Federal Prison for any diversions or assault. Something has to change.
@BigTee I’ve learned as an ER doc that anything can be weaponized. Even something as simple as a paper clip can cause serious or lethal harm.
Safety protocols are risk mitigation strategies. They are not risk elimination strategies. And there are layers of strategies that together accomplish their job…which is to protect the aircraft from hijacking and itself being weaponized.
Since the post 9/11 bans were put in place have there been security incidents? Yes. How many of them resulted in the death of anyone or the highjacking of an aircraft? None that I can recall, but check me on that.
“According to court documents, Nelson was charged with aggravated assault, illegal carrying of weapons, and domestic violence aggravated assault in New Orleans in 2012.
According to court records, he also faced a lesser misdemeanor in Jefferson Parish in 2003.”

Sounds like a nice guy
This is what happens when Trump supporters are allowed to fly
@Madge
LOL Are you INSANE? Violence is clearly demorat territory. You fool.
Madge and Amazing Larry. Please stop, mental illness and or severe behavior issues are not confined to or indicative of any group or political party. Hopefully the individual gets help and is restricted from flying. Applaud the passengers who stepped, got involved and restrained the individual.
The vast majority of people with mental health challenges are not violent. 9.5 percent of adult Americans have depression or some variation thereof, and that jumped dramatically during the pandemic.
One in four U.S. adults have a diagnosable mental health disorder.
You want to stop everyone who isn’t mentally healthy from flying, you might want to start by checking your own mental health.
This guy has a history of violence, not mental illness. Specifically, he has a history of domestic violence which unless he’s gay means violence against women. And oh, look, he attacked another woman. This isn’t mental illness, it’s misogyny.
Spirit has offered him a status match!
On his way to New Orleans…among the most violent cites in the US.
That should explain everything!!
I’ve posted this solution before and will do so again::
For anyone assaulting another person or creating a disturbance on board that requires pilot or FA intervention, the following apply:
1. $10,000 fine, payable in 30 days or will be withheld from any government payment or social security benefit, , or by wage garnishment
2. Minimum of 14 days in jail up to a maximum allowed for the type of offense committed
3. Lifetime no fly list and banishment from all commercial airlines and USA airports.
Shoelaces (which can also quickly and easily be weaponized) will soon be banned for commercial flight passengers.
Culebra John, re “Madge and Amazing Larry. Please stop, mental illness and or severe behavior issues are not confined to or indicative of any group or political party.” That’s not correct. It’s well documented that (often severe) psychological issues are more prevalent in Trump … and his supporters. Certainly if not that, his supporters suffer from a higher rate of negative personality traits and behaviors including (but not limited to) hatred, bigotry, stupidity, violent behavior, hostility, aggressiveness, narcissism, lack of accountability or responsibility, rudeness, disrespect or bullying, resistance to change or criticism, anger, resentment, argumentativeness, blaming others, pessimism, complaining, blaming circumstances, laziness, selfishness.
Amazing Larry…right on
