News and notes from around the interweb:
- Marriott’s new ‘basic’ brand will no longer be called ‘mid’ it will be StudioRes, which sounds like a SaaS property management system and sounds a bit too much like the new Hyatt Studios brand.
- A refresher on business air-travel etiquette: What not to do when you are flying for work (HT: Jerry R)
- Lufthansa credit card offer 80,000 miles after $3,000 spend in 90 days useful if you want Lufthansa Group first class redemptions you can’t get through partners. (HT: Miles Earn and Burn)
- Podcast host is mad that American Airlines overbooked their premium cabin. (HT: @dontbuybluth) Clearly from his narrative he’s confused about several details. He checked in on time (they accepted his checked bags, so clearly), he did not have a seat assignment (perhaps an aircraft change) and the cabin was oversold so he was bumped.
@foreplaypod The Riggs vs. American Airlines saga is REALLY starting to heat up. Just an insane move by them.
- Your regular reminder that you do not often want to stay in any hotel that an airline is willing to provide you for free during an overnight delay.
@AmericanAir Currently on the phone with a wonderful agent who is helping re-book me.
But still wanted to share these photos so that you won’t book future people at the Airport Best Western in Greenville. pic.twitter.com/N489IbbyGP

- Credit card debt collection
How absurd would it be to complain to the Best Western about a $h*++y room? I’m trying to remember when the airline cleaners were responsible for the hotel rooms conditions also….
yup, it’s never happened.
“Podcast host is mad that American Airlines overbooked their premium cabin.”
I wonder how much he was given for the involuntary denied boarding and how he made it home. Aren’t airlines supposed to auction the compensation off until they get enough volunteers at the price level? At least they didn’t have him beaten up and dragged off like United did to Dr. Dao.
Re: Podcast host. The problem was a) this amateur flyer didn’t pick a seat or purchased a ticket that was already sold out in FC b) GA stupidly/mistakenly said he checked in late. She should have just said he checked in without a seat and the cabin is full. Don’t know why they didn’t offer to downgrade to coach, but I’ll assume that was full as well.
The fact the podcast host can’t even take out his earpods for a moment to give an interview makes him such a d-bag he’s the whole Summer’s Eve box. Nobody deserves to be sat next to that individual.
I’m with Nedskid. Covid collateral damage no more apparent than with the airlines.
That column on the reality of debt collection in the US was very, very interesting. It was long (!), but had a good time reading it. Very informative and eye opening (especially to a non-American).
Nothing but another in a long line of self-appointed prima donnas who is nothing but a blow hard.
Next time take a train or bus…..
Ridiculous that Riggs is complaining about not being able to get on the plane because he didn’t check in on time.
American Airlines offers online check-in 24 HOURS BEFORE THE FLIGHT DEPARTS!
If you’re that stupid/lazy/incompetent not to check-in on-line, don’t complain about it. This was on you, Riggs.

Easy way to stop theses “socialebrities”, stop listening to their dumb pod casts and read a paper. Better yet, drop social media all together, it’s just liars and losers.
