News and notes from around the interweb:
- Flight Attendants Struggle to Close Door Risking Fall to Tarmac Below
- Couple matched on hinge, then bumped into each other at the airport and had their first date on the plane
- American Express has a partnership with Manchester Airport Group, so that their U.S. Escape Lounges are ‘Centurion Studio’ lounges. In Phoenix there’s a Centurion lounge and an Escape lounge side-by-side and you must choose. (HT: Ken A) Somehow I did not realize this.
Now, you can generally use the Escape lounge as an arrivals lounge while Centurion is on departure only. And Escape is open an hour later. But most people otherwise prefer Centurion. The key is that you’re not supposed to be able to visit one and then the other. Not ideal for those of us who want to do reviews!
- 21-Year-Old New York Student Trapped in Dubai For Months after touching a customs officer who was searching her
- 30% transfer bonus from Citi to Virgin Atlantic through October 14

- US Muslim rights group sues FBI over ‘secret’ no-fly list
On the woman trapped in the UAE, where is the US state department? Seems they could advocate for a quick resolution. Not saying she gets off free (although very minor crime) but a fine and allowed to leave (maybe with restriction to never return) should do it
Why would you open the door until the stairs or ramp is there unless it’s an emergency and you are activating the slide?
The Dubai incident is just one more reason I would go across the Pacific to get to the East Coast from Southeast Asia instead of through the Middle East.
Odd. I’ve had 2 pat downs by female agents (damn machines are set too sensitive, wire in bra sets them off).
Both times they were extremely polite, light touches and we laughed and talked during it.
Attitude can go a link way.

@Patti
Catering of course, that’s not the L1 door which is used by passengers.
Only time I’m opening that door from the inside is an evacuation. Otherwise the agent can open it from the outside.
Dubai – never understood the allure
I’m embarrassed that I fell for the cheap click-bait of “Risk Falling”. Gary, you know there’s a gust safety lock even though the first flight attendant didn’t.
