News and notes from around the interweb:
- Emirates plans to devalue business class partner awards in January recently they explained why they keep devaluing their miles.
- My comment to the FAA on their plan to regulate charter airlines out of existence
- La Quinta hotel guest arrested for counterfeiting money in his room “After Oaksmith was removed from his room while deputies were still on scene, he attempted to use a forged $100 bill at the nearby McDonald’s”
- Singapore Airlines eliminates buy up upgrades on award tickets and cheaper coach fares
- ExpertFlyer loses access to all Star Alliance award availability and Virgin Australia. It’s clearly one data source, not Air Canada, and it looks like they won’t restore access.
The data source wasn’t AC, and I wouldn’t hold out any hope that it’s coming back, sorry.

- Singapore Airlines does an amazing job with its main meal services, but I’ve written for well over a decade that their midflight snacks are a weak spot in premium cabins. They’ve revamped midflight snacks with hawker items, currently Hokkien Mee and Carrot Cake (Chai tow kway, radish-rice flour cake) with Prawns.

Now I need to cancel expertflyer. What’s a good alternative?
Devaluing airline rewards is like gambling and the dealer continuously reaching over and grabbing a handful of your chips each time.
As someone who has flown Emirates business on points, this is disappointing.
While it’s justifiable to spend more than average on Emirates for such luxury… However once you get that 777 business class seat you realize you overpaid and could have spent, those points on an equally as nice seat for a lot less.
I’ll pay a premium for the A380 but this is just a Delta-like move that’ll have folks jumping to Qatar or a competitor.
