News and notes from around the interweb:
- Airline bump compensation is game theory. If you can get everyone to hold out, the offers go up – airlines don’t want to pay out the maximum $1,550 in cash, and don’t want to add to their involuntary denied boarding stats. But passengers may defect as the offer goes up, so you’re incentivized to take lower amounts out of fear of losing out to someone else.

First, there’s a treaty that governs how these disputes work and banning KLM from New York would violate that treaty. Second, the Dutch want to reduce flights out of Amsterdam and KLM is literally fighting this. Third, if they really want the federal government to decide who flies where then maybe they just should concede its case against their Spirit merger? Fourth, JetBlue dropping Boston – Amsterdam would probably be good for its bottom line actually.
- Qantas wet-leasing Finnair Airbus A330s with sofa-style business class seats that do not recline
- Heh.
- Remember when they could advertise this credibly?
- Plastiq largely killed its usefulness as a miles-earning tool (charge your credit card, they send a check or ACH) when they raised their prices all the way to 2.9%. Now there’s a per-transaction fee, too.
- A JetBlue passenger claims flight attendants wouldn’t serve her alcohol because… she’s white. Yet it also seems like maybe she’s already had alcohol. And ‘all lives matter’ was about fighting for our right to party?
I’m white, and you don’t like white people. Black life matters? White life matters. It’s all peace and love.

Yeah here’s Gary with his undergraduate econ degree trying to sound smart with “game theory”
@HVC – my econ experience stopped at undergrad?
I am Team Gary on this. “Game Theory” is the perfect verbiage to describe the situation. It’s elevated English in the most positive way with creative terminology that evokes a chess match.
Gary, don’t respond to HVC. Not worth it.
