News and notes from around the interweb:
- Alaska Airlines surveying lie flat seats
- Inside a Private Jet Club Where Everything Went Wrong “AeroVanti vowed to shake up private aviation with way-below-market rates, but it kept canceling the flights. Customers, employees and contractors say the CEO ripped them off—to the tune of $40 million.” (HT: @crucker)
- American Airlines luggage tags.
You asked. I delivered. I’m the reddit luggage tag guy and I finally made some American Airlines ‘loyalty’ tags for my reddit friends. Enjoy!

- Wow.
Miami Beach hopes to put an end to spring break in South Beach with new rules
– $100 parking rate during two busiest weekends in March
– $516 towing rate (double normal)
– Beach entrances closing @ 6 pm between 5-12 St
– Sidewalk cafes on Ocean Drive closing March 8-10; 15-17 pic.twitter.com/FeIoWbR8DM— Joel Franco (@OfficialJoelF) February 10, 2024
- You can no longer use a ‘business trip’ as cover for cheating in a relationship because traditional business travel is dead.
Hi Gary …. If you use “What fresh hell is this?” , please attribute the quote to the creator , Dorothy Parker . It’s too easy to not attribute quotes .
South Beach is expensive enough that it is sort of amusing that the governing types there want to try to further limit spring break traffic and all the money it brings in to the area.
Crowds bring in money and some problems. Sort of like with the Super Bowl in Vegas where the market for illicit sexual services was as could be expected.
No story about anti-sex-trafficking videos being played on flights to LAS in recent days?
That’s awesome with the kid being quietly transported and really seems to enjoy the ride.
@Alert – my second favorite Parker quote: Of course I talk to myself. I like a good speaker, and I appreciate an intelligent audience.
@Christian … Excellent ! My favourite Round Table quote ( not by Parker ) : Woollcott boasted that he has just published a book , destined to be a rare first edition , and he held it up . Someone said perhaps it will be a rare first edition because perhaps it will never go into a second edition .
The lie-flat survey is probably about what to do with those newly acquired Hawaiian wide-bodies.
@GU
The problem with Spring break today is the demographics are different from spring break 20-25 years ago. It’s not really about having fun anymore but about violent crime and disruption. It’s gotten really bad. Of course they can’t admit it so they make these onerous rules.
Nothing new about spring break crackdowns
Palm Springs went through it almost 40 years ago
The child is quiet and enjoying the ride. Definitely a no-no for the killjoys.
