News and notes from around the interweb:
- Uber rider says she was banned for reporting a driver who hit on her
Two weeks ago, my driver was hitting on me hard while driving me home from a bar at 2:30am. He asked for my phone number multiple times and said he could “make my night.” I didn’t give him my phone number, but he made me take his (as in he told me to enter it in my phone and then asked me to repeat it back to him). … I was worried because this guy seemed to have no boundaries and since I was Ubering home, he would know where I lived. So I didn’t want to make him upset.
…When I got home, my partner encouraged me to contact Uber, which I did the next day. I used the “my driver’s behavior made me feel unsafe” option through the app. They fairly quickly had a live person reach out to me by phone, and he asked me to describe my experience, which I did. He sounded supportive when he talked to me and said Uber would investigate. He also refunded the charge, which I actually tried to object to because it wasn’t that much money and I was worried that they’d think I was just complaining to get a free ride. He said he had no choice; if there was a safety report, he HAD to refund it, but he assured me it would be taken seriously.
Later that same evening, I received what appeared to be an auto-generated email telling me my account was deactivated. I thought it was a mistake, and replied to the email trying to get more information. They just kept sending the same email saying “your account has been deactivated.” Then they stopped responding at all.
- United pilots won this during the pandemic – the airline had to bribe them not to furlough, and to keep everyone flying and active (crazy, right?). So American agreed to give first class to pilots within 24 hours of departure if available when they’re deadheading to an assignment. Pilots over passengers, though, makes AAdvantage status worth even less. The customer is clearly not the starting point.
This is a contractual provision in our new pilot agreement and is limited to upgrades within 24 hours of departure. Our standard processes for clearing upgrades prior to 24-hours before departure, including for our AAdvantage members, remain in place.

- Here’s what Delta serving Shake Shack in first class looks like. The bag of chips as an accompaniment feels cheap to me. Key is going to be not leaving it in the galley oven too long.

community on Reddit - I told you that people are showing up at hotels for free breakfast, and they aren’t even guests… Well.
I met a colleague for breakfast at a local Embassy Suites prior to driving him into our offices. He was staying there, I was not. Should I have paid for my breakfast? I looked around for someone to pay, and then decided I had missed plenty of breakfast opportunities during previous stays due to early flights etc and that unless they asked, we were more than square.
- Buying a timeshare is the worst decision you can make so here’s what Hilton Grand Vacations timeshare salespeople resort to.
[T]he woman told us that her 21 year old son had passed a couple of years ago and this tragedy had caused her to want to live life to the fullest- this was all in the context of her encouraging us to buy a timeshare so we can have an annual affordable family vacation.
…[Another salesperson] told us that his son died from drugs as a teenager and he wished he had been able to do more with his family while they were still whole, so now he really enjoys helping other families get to spend quality time together.
- Beautiful bird.

As I tell my kids, nothing good happens after midnight. My guess is the Uber driver had it on video, they reviewed the tape and concluded that her story is drunken b.s. There are several reasons she may have been at a bar at 2:30am while her partner was at home; most of them are unflattering.
Woke Delta talks about eliminating plastic and being sustainable, etc. But then serves a meal with bagged potato chips, a browne wrapped in plastic and then assorted condiments also in plastic. Just like when they touted the sustainability of serving wine in a can but then showing said wine served in a plastic cup in the promotional photo accompanying the press release.
Regardless, those chips I believe used to be part of the snack basket. I think they’re also grab-and-go at most Sky Club lounges too.
That burger looks sad and soggy. Another Delta moment. Reheated fast food in first class. I’m not sure if they could resort to lower quality garbage. What a terrible airline.
Really need to get used to the idea that if first class is really important to you then pay the upgrade fee. I have no issue with pilots getting open first class seats. They’re on their way to an assignment and should start the trip as fresh as possible.
The Uber driver. It might not be right but if she had said “look mister I’m happily married and would want nothing from you other than a ride” it would have shut him up.
@LAX Tom
Accurate. If I had to guess, this is faux outrage on her part to cover for the fact that she was with another guy in the Uber, as the driver probably proved with video evidence, and she’s covering because she got caught with another guys phone number in her phone. Uber doesn’t just ban customers for no reason, wouldn’t be a great business model. She better be careful with how hard she pushes this lie, it could become a legal issue.

Ah, yes, something-something ‘woke’ is the always problem. Guys, the election is over. No need to pretend there’s a migrant caravan or that the price of eggs or ‘her emails’ meant anything. You won. Now see ‘your team’ try to govern. Unless you are in on the grift, it doesn’t go well for most of us, usually.
As far as Uber/rideshares go, I enjoy full-on debates with my drivers about the ongoing culture/race/class war. I’d rather have the guy angry and awake than asleep at the wheel. And if I’m the reason he wants to drive off a bridge, then it’s been fun y’all.
And right on cue, @1990 comes along to tell others not to be political, as he goes on to parrot his usual leftist political talking points. Disingenuous and dishonest as usual. Enjoy the next 4 years, you earned it.
@George N Romey You think its most women’s experience that if they tell a man they aren’t interested, he’ll always simply shut up and leave them alone? Talk to women about this sometime…
Ask a few women under 40 about how safe they feel when dealing with a creepy Uber driver. I used to think this was just a rare situation or exaggerated until every woman I discussed this with had multiple instances of creeps driving them home and hitting on them. That left the women feeling weirded out by the sleazeball drivers knowing where the women live. Uber has a long and rich history of extreme misogyny. I’d kind of hoped that those days were past but obviously not. Incel commenters will no doubt cheer this and pretend that the fault is the woman’s while normal humans are appalled by the driver’s behavior.
It’s simple, if you think you’re that good looking, don’t take uber, there are other services available. save yourself the trouble. These people are picking up drunks at two in the morning to make a living, just think about that.
As a part time Uber driver i get hit on by riders daily and to be honest drunk people suck! They dont tip and they are drunk so its a lose lose for the driver ..I doubt the rider is telling the whole story and while im not saying the driver wasnt creepy ,I think the real creepy people are the riders ,whos out and alone at 3 am ..who does that?
@Mantis
I’ll savor every day.
Was it ‘vermin’ or ‘the enemy from within’ that you prefer to call us?
The way you and your cohort talk sounds just the same to us: insane.
@Adam “I’m not sure if they could resort to lower quality garbage. What a terrible airline.” I’ve had some terrible food on all the legacies. This might be good, it might not, but I don’t think the appearance tells the tale. I’ll reserve judgment until I try it. I don’t have a chip on my shoulder over any airline. But, you seem to over DL. Why not post “DL sucks” rather than speculating on how it tastes?
It is strange to read the replies about the Uber driver that are so misogynist against the woman reporting him because she was about at 2:30 am. I guess it is keep them lady folk barefoot, pregnant and in the kitchen.
@Gary Rakestraw: that was along the lines of my thoughts. A lot of people telling in themselves not knowing anything else other than the blurb.
