Topless Passenger’s Drunken St. Patrick’s Day Rampage Smashes Up Dublin Airport

A passenger who had reportedly missed his flight – and who may have been intoxicated on St. Patrick’s Day – went on a rampage in Dublin airport terminal 1 today. The topless man, with face partially obscured, went about smashing structures and hurling objects around the terminal.

The man apparently was intoxicated when he arrived at the terminal. Ryanair’s CEO wants passengers limited to two drinks at the airport, presumably so he doesn’t face competition selling them booze on board. Here two more drinks probably wouldn’t have made things worse.

Airport Police took the man into custody, charged him, and he’s scheduled to appear at the Criminal Courts of Justice in Dublin. Similar incidents, of course, happen on this side of the Pond, too.

  1. At least they actually detained and charged him, in accordance with whatever due process they have over in the EU. Ideally, the perpetrator will be convicted, sentenced, and likely pay for the damages he caused. If it were up to me, I’d say ban from the airport and airlines for an appropriate period, subject to some equivalent of parole (apply to regain privileges and access at a later date, if applicable). Again, glad to see the rule of law in action, and please may we deter this behavior wherever it happens.

  2. Sorry, I must have had a stroke above…what I meant to say was: ‘Burn him!! He’s a witch!!’ /s

(You know, because ‘rule of law’ is lame and tedious, so let’s just go maximum violence in reaction to everything….not)

  3. Again, adults that behave worst than toddlers and people like @1990 that think they’re so underprivileged and deserve to be pitied with “restorative justice.”

How about five years in jail, forced to pay damages and put on a Do Not Fly List. The next lowlife that gets drunk at an airport might think different.

  4. @George N Romey — Again, for folks like you, see my second comment–the ‘vigilante justice’ one (just summarily execute whoever you disagree with, wrongly accused or not, whatever, who cares).

For remaining rational, decent folks, please stick to my first comment (I know, less blood, boohoo).

@Thing 1 — Have you been tazed? Maybe some folks are into that. For this perp, that sounds more humane than getting shot, killed, so maybe tazer is the best option. Would trust the professionals on this, rather than us internet sleuths, but whatever, let’s speculate anyway! Woop woop!

  5. For future reference…”topless passenger” and “topless man”…two TOTALLY different things!

  6. If you had put “topless man” in the headline I would have saved my effort reading the article. Who really cares if a man takes his shirt off?

  7. Thankfully he was staying safe by wearing a mask while committing violence and property damage, like a good little leftist.

  8. Nothing says “I never want to fly again” like a good airport tantrum.
Hope he has a long stay at the iron bar hotel.

  9. The format of your website stinks. Everyone wants to see the video, yet none of your links/hypertexts go to it. How many windows do I have to open to read more? Stop being so lazy and make your website more user friendly. Rant over.

  10. A passenger who had reportedly missed his flight – and who may have been intoxicated on St. Patrick’s Day – went on a rampage in Dublin airport terminal 1 today.

I’m shocked, shocked to find out drinking is going on here…

  11. @Jeff — Counterpoint: The website is great. Your device may not be. Or, the website that is the original source is not ‘great’–and that website happens to X. So, not really a VFTW problem.

@Mantis — I didn’t see no mask. But, only since YOU went there, if you’re referring to the J6 traitors who attacking our Capitol, I do distinctly recall seeing plenty of them wearing masks… and it wasn’t their attire that was ‘the crime’–no, the crime was them violently attacking the police and their attempts to disrupt the peaceful transfer of power, lest we forget. Nice try, though.

  12. @Mantis — I did see a ‘neck gaiter’. It’s technically still winter. Gotta keep warm in the northern hemisphere, sir. Protect yourself, don’t wreck yourself, son.

  13. @ 1990 — Meahwhile, irrational people, like George, anxioulsy await the return of COVID so they can act like entitled idiots all over again.

  14. @Gene — I’m willing to admit, no one was perfect on the pandemic; though, I tried my best, like many of us, to adapt to whatever were the ‘best ideas’ at the time–you know, listen to your doctor, wash your hands, wear a high quality mask, stay home if you could, etc. For a little while, we had literal refrigerator trucks with the deceased on our streets, so while some got to avoid that horror, others really ‘felt’ the pandemic up-close-and-personal. Heaven forbid any of us lost anyone close to us. When the vaccines came around, it felt like a turning point, but then we learned, while those medical and scientific marvels should prevent death, they didn’t prevent cases, one of which left me out-of-it for 1-2 months. Not fun. Glad we all survived here. Many did not. I still feel for the doctors and ‘essential’ workers who sacrificed and were either vilified or relatively forgotten afterwards. Wish we would have learned more. It’ll probably happen again at some point. Oof.

  15. You know, I wish some government transport minister would tell O’Leary off to the effect that “When your targeted clientele is Essex Man, what /do/ you expect?”
