  1. “We know this is tough news to process for yourself and all your affected Cohearts…” Oh my lord.

  2. Looking good, Gary, and great conversation with David on Southwest.

    On the the SWA layoffs: It’s wild that they are cutting staff in the middle of the summer travel season (June 1st?!) So, they’re doing the short-term profit (by firing everyone, reducing costs). But, it will come at the long-term expense of losing market share, worker and consumer loyalty. In Gary’s link to flyertalk, I appreciate that the poster there actually included the response by Local 555, which called it a ‘poorly worded’ announcement. Bah! The union proceeded to explain how management has abused its power, practically lied to them and their members, referring to previous reductions at FLL, IAH, and ATL, calling this recent update the ‘nuclear’ option and calling out SWA’s ‘weakness’. Pretty tough stuff. This is why you want a union to have your back in harsh times like this–otherwise, you’re ‘at will’ and ‘gone’ in minutes without a defender. In solidarity.

  3. @ Gray — I have successfully added United and ANA meal vouchers to my Chick-fil-A account.

  4. I got two meal vochers in recent years. I went to my favorite wine store with the first. I used the second at a local bar. I just asked them to enter the digits and it worked with no problem.

  5. When it comes to the major Hotel Chains, it’s hard to tell which properties are corporate owned and which are franchises, but both are at grave risk when they are fastening large benches to drywall with simple drywall anchors. Sooner or later (and it will be sooner), someone is going to become seriously injured, and simply lawyering up isn’t going to be enough. Now that one incident has already gone public, plausible deniability isn’t going to work either. They always prefer the lowest cost solution, but in this case that would be hiring a structural engineer to design a proper mount, and a licensed/bonded contractor to install them per the engineering drawings.

  6. Moderation problem. I will post in pieces;

    I hope BambiBabooshka was charged for the damage. The chair that is designed to sit on is fine. The shelf with padding is best used for luggage. I wonder if the shelf would have had a problem if it was used as it was intended to be used. The anchoring of the shelf was done incorrectly.

  7. Moderation problem. I will post in pieces:

    Duck Bay Hotel, Restaurant & Luxury Cottages deserves to be called out. This incident reminds me of the saying: “The fish rots from the head.”

  8. Moderation problem. It looks like my comment about pilots violating airspace is not immediately acceptable. In other words I simply said that they should have a six month flying time out so that they would take notice.
