Four koalas are headed from Australia to the Singapore Zoo on Monday.
To commemorate the Republic’s 50th birthday and 50 years of diplomatic ties with Singapore, Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop announced on Thursday that four koalas will be loaned to the Singapore Zoo for six months.
The koalas will live in an enclosure specially built to suit their needs. Once the Singapore Zoo is able to support a koala colony, the gift will be made permanent.
Koalas Paddle, Pellita, Chan and Idalia will fly Qantas from Brisbane to Singapore.
The Australian carrier said that they will be sitting in “koala class”, and going by a photo preview posted on Facebook on Sunday, they could be lapping up a nice drink and chewing on eucalyptus leaves.
The koalas will in fact be flown in custom-built shipping capsules that are climate-controlled and equipped with a tree and high-quality eucalyptus leaves.
With their claws, you probably wouldn’t want them sitting on those nice faux leather seats for long.
Speaking of the land down under, Mick knew how to handle trouble.

How many points required to fly in Koala Class? 😉
Can I have a service koala? Those pictures are awesome!
@Arcanum, they’re not faux leather. They’re actual leather….
Now, thought leader in koala travel too!
LOL, hilarious comment.
@Mike I don’t care how many miles it would take to fly with my service koala, would so be worth it.
I love koalas, everything about koalas. Years ago, Quantas (or someone) published a calendar with photographs of koalas dressed in various clothing, sunglasses, etc. They are so adorable and lovable. I look forward to any information and photos of koalas. I wanted to forward this article to my sister and my e-mail account so I could have the photographs, but I didn’t see a way to do it because I don’t have g-mail, Facebook, Twitter, or whatever the other choice was.
