News and notes from around the interweb:
- Airbus is introducing 11-across economy seating for the A380. That gives them a new advertised ‘standard’ for the aircraft and lets them promote more passengers and better economics to sell the planes to new airlines. So much for touting its luxury, but the aircraft program has problem.
- This would be kind of awesome. JetBlue and developers could turn the old TWA terminal at New York JFK into a hotel. (HT: Alan H.)
- United is boosting meals in international economy.
- Remember when Houston – Auckland service stopped making economic sense for United because Southwest was going to be allowed to fly from Houston Hobby airport to Mexico? Well Air New Zealand is going to launch the route. It makes sense for them the way Dallas does for Qantas — a more efficient gateway for the Midwest and East coast at one of their primary US partner’s hubs.
- Here’s gogo’s newest test plane being outfitted with their newest generation technology. They tout peak speeds of over 70 Mbps. Faster of course is better.
I did read yesterday WSJ article on placing hotels at airports. Not a real written article, except the rendering of the future Denver airport hotel, does make it look like the non-Trump built Taj Mahal.
Is the real negative of flying in and staying downtown; the hassle of getting back and forth or the avoidance of urban issues, aka crimes.
If you’ve never been on a 9 across DC-10CF, then this will seem bad. If you have, you’ll appreciate that with these new design seats, it won’t be as bad as that middle seat was on a cheap Martinair flight.
This should mean more award availability on AKL-LAX and SFO.. All you East Coasters can start connecting in Houston starting in December. Awesome 😀
Martinair was painful enough in their “business class”. I don’t want to think about their coach product.
