News and notes from around the interweb:
- The mobster charged in the 1978 Lufthansa heist at New York JFK which was known as “the largest cash robbery on US soil,” goes on trial today.
- I think this made my year: the pilots of All Nippon Airways Star Wars jets have lightsabers.

- Because it would be difficult to do in the reverse order. United flight UA144 from Honolulu to Washington Dulles experienced mechanical issues and had to return to Hawaii on Saturday. Here is how it was covered in DC media:
- Former TSA agent charged with accepting payoffs to allow marijuana through an LAX checkpoint. He’s charged with 9 incidents of accepting at least $500 to facilitate marijuana through the checkpoint in 2009 and 2010 and this is happening now. Of the TSA shouldn’t be checking for marijuana in the first place, it should be checking for explosives and other guns. And that means not being distracted by even ‘noticing’ other illegal items in order to call other law enforcement. Either they are singularly focused on protected us, or they are a checkpoint for myriad other enforcement priorities. They cannot be both.
- Air France KLM threatening more layoffs in 2017 if unions don’t accept changes to work rules.
- The final US Airways flight US1939.
Fbi agents haven’t covered their faces unlike in Mexico, where they do. The reasons should be obvious. Thankfully the USA is not as corrupt as Mexico, except for the top 1% mostly finance people.
Along the lines of how the media covers airliner trouble, my favorite was when the captain died in flight. The headline read, “Captain dies mid-flight, co-pilot lands plane.” To the former, I say “News! This is rare.” To the later, I say “No shit sherlock, happens every day!”
Actually, planes takeoff after landing all the time! 😉
Did anyone else notice the ANA pilots have red Sith lightsabers?
They belong to the dark side of the force.
haha the us isn’t as corrupt as mexico. OK if u say so. Also Mexico does not have an FBI the guys u see wearing masks are federal police officers very different from FBI more close to special forces or SWAT. The reason they wear masks is to protect identity I mean these guys are fighting Drug Cartels so it’s the kinda job where u don’t want ur identity being known unless u have a death wish. Also FBI do wear masks. Google it.
