News and notes from around the interweb:
- The Onion: American Airlines Announces It Will No Longer Try To Match Seatmates By Interests
- Qantas ending ‘open doors’ lounge policy for VIP invite-only Chairmans members. They’ll have to be flying Qantas, Jetstar, oneworld, Emirates, or China Eastern (and not using another airline’s codeshare for the flight) in order to use the carrier’s lounges.
- Wild speculation about a future merger between Alaska Airlines and jetBlue
- Singapore Airlines launching blockchain-based loyalty wallet for members to use their points at retail. This seems to entirely miss the point of blockchain, which is great for transparency and building trust and has numerous applications beyond currency like contracts – but which doesn’t appear to add significant value in this context.
- AAVacations is offering 20,000 bonus miles for booking an Australia trip by March 7.
- Alaska Airlines shopping bonus 500 points for $150 spend by February 11. (HT: Doctor of Credit)
- Wyndham arrives late to party, introduces 10% off member rates
“but which doesn’t appear to add significant value in this context.”
