Air Canada Aeroplan now partners with Lufthansa subsidiary Eurowings, adding connecting opportunities for award travel throughout Europe, the Mideast and North Africa.

Eurowings is not part of Star Alliance even though they’re a Lufthansa Group carrier. They were once part of Lufthansa Regional, and shouldn’t be confused with Discover Airlines, which was previously Eurowings Discover, and offers low cost long haul as part of Lufthansa’s strange collection of subsidiaries (and is still legally EW Discover).

Instead, the current Eurowings operates about 100 Airbus narrowbody aircraft, most of which have small business class cabins as well as economy. They’ll take you to places like Albania, Croatia, Cyprus, as well as Lyon, Marseille, Nice, and Paris in France. They serve 11 destinations in Greece and 15 each in Italy and Spain.

Award pricing will be based on Aeroplan’s standard chart, and Eurowings flights will be combinable with other airlines in awards online.

Aeroplan has more airline partners than any other frequent flyer program – Star Alliance is already the largest but they partner on an direct basis with carriers well beyond that.
