News and notes from around the interweb:
- CEO of Star Alliance member TAP Air Portugal: mask requirements on planes will stay forever (Skift)
- Study finds flyers won’t pay a revenue premium for green travel (Skift) maybe that’s a contrarian or unpopular view but we know that when given a choice, travelers don’t spend more for carbon offsets.
- Older man lured to a Hyatt Regency and robbed. The 69 year old met the couple, in their early 20s, on SeekingArrangement.
- Shrapnel injures at least 12 passengers and workers at Saudi international airport after Houthi drone is shot down above the terminal
- The way Frontier Airlines schedules flights lets them recover quickly from disruptions their planes do mostly out-and-backs rather than flying through their system.
- Inside a $5 a night tiny hotel room in Japan that a TikToker says smelled ‘like pee’ but was perfect for budget travel
@jesseogn Would you stay at this hotel?? #japan #tiktokjapan #japantiktok #japantravel #osaka #creepy ♬ Amityville Horror – Scary Halloween Sound Effects – Halloween Sound Effects - The people who think someone is trying to steal their DNA are never the ones whose DNA anyone would steal.
We all know the carbon offsets are just modern indulgences for progressives. Things haven’t changed for 500 years. Perhaps if you have to buy a carbon offset, maybe you shouldn’t take the trip to begin with and avoid the sin altogether.
Well, most of us know that airlines are run by space aliens. But declaring that masks will be required forever on airplanes is just plain stupid. What part about ‘unruly pax’ and the causes thereof doesn’t she understand? Hint: alcohol has been available forever; masks are two years old. Look at the statistics. I know, too much to expect from airline management. Not to mention the economic impact of billions of dollars not spent on travel. Nobody wants to waste their money to be uncomfortable and harassed about wearing a freaking mask. One more time: people who are worried about getting sick need to stay home and/or wear as many masks as they wish. Pretty soon they won’t be able to breathe at all, perhaps that will get the message across.
Can you correct your headline Gary? TAP’s CEO is a woman
TAP ceo will find out very quickly that the market and competitors will dictate when mask mandates end
If they keep the mandate beyond everybody else it will be a disaster for them
On carbon offset…what CM said…
>Flyers Not Willing to Pay Extra for Green Travel on Airlines: New Study
Well, Duh!! It doesn’t say stupid on our foreheads in inch-high red letters. 🙂
Well, that c*nt can go f*ck a tailpipe.
Great collection of interesting stories!
I would pay extra to not have to wear a mask
Bahaha. I’d like to see some North American airline CEO play that covid cultist nonsense. The market will soon prove that we are ALL SICK OF MASKS once the mandate ends and consumers would avoid that airline like the plague.
The day the current US administration removes it (or get voted out of power in November) the masks are gone from planes. Zero shot TAP will survive beyond a few months if they’re the ones requiring it. The CEO is an idiot and she is unaware of real life.
That hotel still looks better than a Sheraton.
Gary, Skift incorrectly quoted the TAP CEO as saying “Airline Passengers Will Wear Masks Forever.” She said additional “additional protocols.” That was it. Skift misquoting her, and then you including it, is leading your readers to false attribution and information. The original author summarizes some of the specific safety protocols “could all remain in place,” but that was not a quote, nor does it say forever.
@Maskle$$ — “I would pay extra to not have to wear a mask”
Uh … never back down, never apologize, and never give those Establishment dictators any new ideas on how to further rip off and torture the public! Instead, how about demanding that airlines give huge cash rebates as inducement, in order to continue their coercive mandates about wearing masks while onboard? 😛
If one clicks over to the referenced article, the airline CEO is quoted as saying, “I am absolutely convinced they will stay forever,” later in the article adding ““What we would like to see is global protocols and more consistent way to see what conditions are.”
How does that become “Airline CEO Says She’ll Require Masks Forever”? She neither says that nor asserts that she has any desire or place to do so.
My God…yes masks are just sooo bad and painful. The only good thing about Covid is…it proved once and for all who the real snowflakes are. Whiny cry-babies all of you. I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again. You don’t like the rules? You want your freedom? Drive to your destination!!!
Masks aren’t filed with broken glass or biting insects. They just protect. I get that’s a unique concept for a lot of you but somebody has to protect you from your own ignorance.
@warren
You are welcome to triple mask for the rest of your life
You sound canadian by the way
@Doug
Not Canadian…just logical. A trait somehow lost on your weak-a$$.
Sorry warren, you sounded Canadian (ie stupid)
Let me guess, you give dirty looks to people without masks in the streets, you turn your face away in the supermarket
I know your type…I feel sorry for moronic sheep like you
I bet you want the pcr to continue even though we are all just changing dates on old pcr…
Go die
@Doug
Wow…let’s see terrible grammar…wrong use of an ellipse (look it up…and see if you can comprehend the notion). An insult to an entire country (most of whom could probably drop you like 1st period french) and an invitation to die!
Well, you sure are having a busy day their ‘Douglas”! All on a travel web site. Hope I see you in an airport soon. Trust me…you won’t say a thing to my face!
Have a great day!
warren you shocked me!!
sheep AND enlightened….
I will not be able to recognize you as you will be covered in masks
luckily the majority is not like you anymore
I recently flew TK business class, nobody was wearing masks, PCR was fake with change dated on pdf…and so on and so on….
you are becoming a (comic) minority
warren ps:
I live in canada and I am a citizen…they can’t drop me…and they are stupid
@Tom Ronell
You are absolutely correct. The CEO did not say that — Skift is bordering on libel to write that headline and their copy. Gary, from View from the Wing, was irresponsible for posting it.
