News and notes from around the interweb:
- So I’m a germaphobe but it never even occurred to me to disinfect hotel key cards.
- Chipotle launched a revenue-based loyalty program that looks like the current Starbucks program (which is expected to be revamped again soon). So far it’s only in Phoenix, Kansas City (Kansas) and Columbus (Ohio) but should go national next year.
Online orders earn 15 points per dollar, in-person 10 points per dollar, and free entrees run 1250 points. $125 Chipotle spend (in-person) for a free burrito strikes me as un-generous. However “Customers in the three pilot markets will also get free chips and guac after their first Chipotle Rewards order.”
- American Airlines wants to stop flying Charlotte – Havana and wants the government to let them add another Miami – Havana frequency. Their Charlotte flights have been half empty and often at low fares.
From the beginning I was highly skeptical about the size of the opportunity in Cuba. Southwest’s CEO said it was close to a gold rush, but almost all the traffic originates on one side (US), it’s mostly leisure traffic, there’s limited tourism infrastructure, and costs of serving the airports there are high.
Finally US airline CEOs are saying, “Tengo una remera del Che y no sé por qué,” (“I have a Che T-shirt and I don’t know why”).
- Founder of easyJet is threatening a lawsuit against Netflix over a show called Easy. The show will use all lower case, and easyJet argues a similar font.
JetBlue’s founder wanted to call the airline just ‘Blue’ but they couldn’t get intellectual property protection in that word. Easy will be similar under U.S. law. Of course they’re relying on law in Europe and over European distribution.
- Earn Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards buying coffee I’m too particular about my coffee, personally, but then I wouldn’t have eaten Healthy Choice pudding either! (HT: Too Many Books)
- TSA employee helped a man who collapsed having a heart attack while going through the checkpoint
- Qatar Airways has converted 5 Airbus A350-900 orders to -1000s.
If you had a drinking game where you went over your blog and took a shot every time you told that Che anecdote…
If you actually did know coffee, then you would know that Community Coffee is a very well regarded coffee roaster. Almost 100 year company from Loiusana. They distribute only in the south.
Community Coffee is great coffee! Do you have to choose between SWA and proof of purchase for schools?
Meh. If you’re going to disinfect room cards, you should first be disinfecting every bill and non-silver.coin that goes into your wallet.
