I’ve been in the midst of my busiest time of year at work over the past several weeks, and several stories passed without comment. One was the Sun Country flight departing New York JFK that was swarmed by law enforcement because a piece of luggage had the insignia ISIS on it.
A federal source tells WNBC of New York that a passenger on the plane had a duffel traveling bag that had the word ‘ISIS’ on it, which triggered a security alert. The source says the plane and luggage were swept, but nothing was found. The New York Port Authority later determined the concerns stemmed from the logo of a travel agency appearing similar to ISIS insignia. The travel agency had given out bags with the logo to a travel group on the plane.
It struck me that it’s a really good thing terrorists go around putting their logos on dangerous items, or else how would we ever foil their plots?
Now, Isis is the name of the part of the River Thames which flows through Oxford, England.
It’s also the Institute of Strategic and International Studies; Institute for Software Integrated Systems; International Security Information Service; International Spa Importing Specialists; Internet Service Information System; and Iowa Student Information Services.
Don’t say you work for ISIS at the airport!

Or, how about the OTHER “bad” acronym, ISIL?…it is also the acronym for the International Society for Individual Liberty!…a VERY dangerous group!…LOL
This August I have received an “advanced” SIM card from T-mobile. The plastic card advertises to be “ISIS ready”. Should I be concerned?
Regular Downton Abbey viewers, which returned to UK screens last week, will know that the dog is called Isis and is namechecked in every episode.
One of the London private equity firms, Isis, is currently rebranding as there is apparently confusion over whether or not they are using terrorist funds to back MBOs ….
Verizon’s Google wallet clone is also called ISIS.
@Kevin – it’s being rebranded
Just another entry in the log of business names killed by current events. Anyone remember Ayds diet candies?
Was the person that had it on their luggage drunk in the airport and this guy?
