American Airlines’ Flight Attendants Still At WAR Despite Tentative Agreement On New Contract [Roundup]

News and notes from around the interweb:

  • Even though American Airlines flight attendants have reached a tentative agreement on a new contract with the company, the union is instructing cabin crew to continue wearing “WAR” pins and bag tags. They aren’t even pretending it stands for ‘we are ready’ for a new contract anymore. It’s WAR.

  • The interesting thing about co-brand credit card is banks are renting the brand, for better or worse. That means they get people to take the card based on their brand affinity – but also when customers get mad at the brand, they take it out on the card.

  • “Turo trying to scam me $18,000 for a flat” car was damaged after being towed by the company Turo sent.

  • JetBlue 292 making the rounds of social media as though this was recent – it was 2005:

  • Saturday night stabbing at the Miami airport (HT: Paul H)

“Without provocation, the subject attacked the victim by stabbing her multiple times and attempted to throw her over the railing,” the release said. “The victim was able to escape the attack and ran down the stairs to the 3rd floor level, which is where the officers found her.”

  • Through August 17, Citi is offering a 20% bonus on transfers to Wyndham. This is a bad deal that still might get you at best a penny per point in value on most redemptions. Also through August 17, there’s a 25% bonus on transfers to Air France KLM Flying Blue which is much better.

  1. @Gary, Gary, Gary,

RE: AA flight attendants at WAR. You know that until it’s voted on and signed it’s not a done deal!

  2. Boy Gary . You really like to stir the pot . We will continue to wear our WAR pins and lanyards until this deal is ratified . All we have is a tentative agreement that we have not even seen the details to. So yes . Until a contract is ratified . We are still in strike mode .

  3. Long-time KABC-TV anchor Marc Brown (still with the station) and anchor Michelle Tuzee (no longer with KABC) were providing live time coverage of this JetBlue A320 landing at LAX – which was scheduled to have flown BUR-JFK.

To this day, JetBlue continues to operate the BUR-JFK route.

At the time/date this occurred, Jet Blue was not yet flying into/out of LAX.

    How time flies!…lol

  4. I’m surprised that you’re surprised about people cancelling co-branded credit cards. If the card says Delta on the front then Amex is surely handing money to Delta. Why would this surprise you that people burned by Delta would not want to give Delta more revenue? That’s why I cancelled all my Delta cards.

  5. I see good luck to the flight attendants & cabin crews with choosing to wear certain pins in defiance before your contract is ratified. I’m sure it will go over good with your spokes-person whom is in charge of getting the contracts

  6. If FAs were as much as 1% passionate about their customers as they are about the bottom line, maybe the airline would not be in a position that they are right now. When was the last time anyone has really felt welcome flying on AA?
Add to this the overall toxic destruction of customer experience, investor returns and work environment that Doug pioneered and his underlings continue on daily basis – there will never be a happy day on board for anyone who finds themselves on one of AA planes.

  7. I have read past, present comments on this travel blog hoping to learn something. I have read some true comments, a lot of misinformation, people who defend themselves/their jobs and yes the ones that are so entitled that they could not admit that they are wrong much less apologize for their comments when they don’t even have a clue. Sorry to those who have to defend themselves/jobs because of those who choose to keep stirring the pot.
