News and notes from around the interweb:
- Why it can be so tough to get your deposit back when you pay for a hotel with a debit card
- Man self-upgrades to first class, punches the United gate agent who asks him to move
- American Airlines issues “trip credits” for denied boarding compensation; cabin downgrade compensation; and ticket exchanges that result in a residual value. And they’ll be able to be used, finally, for more trips that originate outside the United States.
A majority of this site’s readers are based in the United States but remember that if you’re buying one way tickets you might want to book your return out of one of these countries using trip credits too.
- Are airlines padding their flight schedules? (Washington Post)
- Etihad and Emirates will interline. For years Emirates has been expected by many to acquire Etihad, but egos have gotten in the way. It makes little sense to operate major global connecting hubs 72 miles apart from each other inside the same country. (Indeed the newer Dubai World Central airport is only 45 miles from Abu Dhabi’s airport.)
- Actually – fortunately – air flows downward on the aircraft.
Putting your smelly feet on the headrest during a flight. The air vent was blasting and wofted the scent through the plane

On the emirates-etihad interline deal… would this allow you to book a stopover on aeroplan award and then fly out of the other airport (similar to flying into HND and out of NRT?)
Never ever pay for anything with a debit card. Hotels, gas stations and restaurants put a hold on the card when you swipe it. If you do this often during a trip it can add up and cause a bank overdraft. Many hotels do not release security deposits until 2 days later and no one does on weekends.
