In a since-deleted tweet, American Airlines was taunted over a crewmember who cleaned out the galley carts to replenish their home bar, “bar and pantry stocked.”
Intercontinental Hotels has a separate elite status program from parent company IHG’s One Rewards. At the Royal Ambassador level you could take as much as you wish from the minibar in your room and not get charged. Many years ago Royal Ambassadors could refer a friend to the status. They would get a welcome kit with a referral certificate. Thus perpetual status circles were achieved.
Initially it was being a kid in a candy store, given permission for what’s otherwise the most forbidden of fruit. Eventually it was just nice to take a juice and not worry about the cost. But I may have stocked my office bar in those early days.
Airlines take theft from on board the aircraft seriously, though.
- Before the pandemic Cathay Pacific was searching flight attendants to prevent theft of ice cream and pens.
- Delta supposedly fired a very senior flight attendant for stealing milk though more likely it was for “improperly pa[ying] a co-worker to work her position and later fail[ing] to work at her designated position on a different flight. She was also accused of stealing aircraft items for personal use and spiking her coffee with alcohol during a flight.”
A few bottles here or there is one thing. An aircraft cleaner at New York JFK managed to steal 1,429 mini bottles. She was caught.
Union scum being Union scum.
@Gary: Can you provide a little more information? What was exactly said in the original tweet? Was the FA bragging about stealing stuff or were passengers tweeting about seeing the FA take thing? Was there video of it?
And of course, what were some of the taunts… It’s a slow weekend. I need some entertainment 🙂
@ Gary — “Intercontinental Hotels has a separate elite status program from parent company IHG’s One Rewards. At the Royal Ambassador level you can take as much as you wish from the minibar in your room and not get charged.”
Not true. This has been capped at 50 USD per day/200 USD per stay for about 6-8 years now.
@Walter – Huh? Bud, you’re not supposed to drink the bong water. Being a stupid thief hold no correlation to being a union member unless your suggesting that there’s a Nation Union of Thieving Stupids (NUTS)?
APFA new silly lanyards:
W̲hiskey
A̲maretto
R̲osé
and these thieves think they’re worth a 50% pay increase
This was probably another jealousy thing between flight attendants with senior ones making up to $250,000 a year.
I had a friend (since passed away) who was a Pan Am flight attendant in the seventies. She said the crew would clear out the carts when flying into the Middle East. They would pay for it but then sell everything for a big markup.
Good for them
Management and corporate greed paying off
@Gene – I meant to say you ‘could’ take
@ Walter
The thieves in Chicago are organized.
