On Friday I wrote that American’s inaugural Boeing 737 MAX flight would be loaded over the weekend into schedules.

The domestic inaugural is planned for November 29 Miami – New York LaGuardia, though American warns that the aircraft could be used earlier than that as a replacement plane if needed. So buying the domestic inaugural doesn’t guarantee being on the first flight for the aircraft.

American’s 737 MAX will have fast satellite internet from ViaSat. It will have power ports at every seat. It will also have slimline seats in economy with 30 inch pitch. It also has shrunken lavatories in order to squeeze in more seats. This plane with have the tightest configuration ever offered by a US airline.

If you want to check it out on planned day one, the flights are loaded into the schedule and available for sale.

You’ll see that coach is almost entirely zeroed out in both directions on November 29th. Only full fare economy is available on most flights. That’s actually not purely a function of the inaugural, it’s the case on the days leading up to and following November 29 as well.

Presumably cheaper coach inventory will appear later, but depending on the demand for this inaugural perhaps not for the very first 737 MAX flight. In fact the flights that do have discount inventory available are pricing at $69 in economy.

In fact, for the planned domestic inaugural one way first class is much cheaper than coach.

You can actually use miles and secure saver awards for a 737 MAX flight later in the day in either economy or first class. It’s surprising to (1) find saver awards on American, and (2) when discount paid fare classes are zeroed out.
