Angelina Jolie And Billionaire Salma Hayek Skip Private Jet—Grab Fast Food And Crowd Into Coach On Aeromexico Regional Jet

Angelina Jolie and Salma Hayek were spotted flying commercial, traveling together on Aeromexico Connect from Mexico City to Veracruz.

They arrived around noon, and ate together at Johnny Rocket’s prior to baording their flight where they posed for photos with several diners. Then they were filmed together queued on the jetbridge waiting to board (where they reportedly declined photos with other passengers). No entourage appear to have accompanied them. After the flight the headed to baggage claim together, and were then met curbside by a single black Chevy Suburban.

Passengers on the scene and subsequent media don’t identify all of the details of their travel, but it looks to me like Mexico City’s terminal 2 (video shows a glass jet‑bridge with Aeroméxico advertising – that’s going to be T2) and they’ll be traveling on an Embraer E-190 given the timing and travel date. Later flights are mainline on a Boeing 737-800, and Volaris and VivaAerobus would be out of terminal 1.

Reports are this happened ‘last weekend’ and there’s also a reference to Saturday so this would have been July 19. Given the roughly noon airport arrival they would have been traveling on the 1:07 p.m. flight AM856.

Reportedly they weren’t boarded separately – they lined up with zone 1 – and that’s consistent with being in the midst of a crowded jetbridge. It appears they flew in row 1 (bulkhead) based on overwing video forward of door 1L. There were two plain‑clothes Policía Auxiliar officers visible at the head of the queue but otherwise they had no detail.

Salma Hayek has an estimated net worth on her own of $200 million, and is married to decabillionaire François-Henri Pinault, chairman of the parent of brands including Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent and Bottega Veneta. Jolie is believed worth over $100 million.

  1. What’s remarkable about these two flying commercial isn’t that two billionaires can sit in coach, it’s that the rest of us are supposed to see it as some grand gesture of humility. Sure, they grabbed a burger and crammed into Aeroméxico regional coach, but let’s not pretend this is some sort of seismic event. It’s a rare, low-effort nod to relatability and maybe a sprinkle of climate virtue, wrapped up in a PR op that clearly attempts to signal they’re special for doing what the rest of the world does every day.

  2. @Mike, why do you care? They made their money on their own, worked for it and didn’t steal it from anyone. And they chose to travel this way for whatever reason. This shouldn’t even be news. They’re just people, not goddesses. Nobody should care. And I’m glad they declined photos. I don’t understand this obsession with celebrities. Just mind your business and eat your biscoff.

  3. @Michael – Exactly. That’s the point. I don’t care, and nobody should. It’s absurd that two wealthy women sitting in coach is treated like breaking news. I’m just pointing out how ridiculous it is that we still frame basic human behavior as some rare, noble act when celebrities do it.

  4. @Ron — I think you meant, *thot* leader. Teehee.

@Michael — Speaking of Biscoff, Delta has these new mini cream-filled Biscoff cookies. @Tim Dunn will be happy to hear that they’re a crowd-favorite, and I haven’t seen them anywhere else. However, @MaxPower (and the other UA fanboys) will be pleased that United has the Daelmans Stroopwafel, which are also a tasty treat.

  5. @ Mike — You have no clue why they chose this method of transport. Perhaps it was more cinvenient?

@ Gary — Why the obsession over everyone’s net worth? Their net worth has nothing to do with the story…it is very offputting. Life is not a contest to DIE with the most money. Or maybe it is to many, which is quite sad. That money won’t stop their cancer from killing them.

  6. Personally, I wouldn’t give a friendless f%ck on a Friday who is on my flight as long as they sit down and shut up. Yes sometimes celebrities fly commercial and even sometimes in coach for any number of reasons. Personally, if I had their money I’d never set foot in a commercial airport again but that’s me.

  7. Don’t understand all the green eyed haters. Two wealthy women can’t have lunch and a day out ? Good for them. Yes it’s a little. Page Six, but a nice break from the headline news! Hey let’s not forget Jolie’s son is now a pilot and she travels with him .

  8. @Maryland — Angelina herself is also a licensed pilot, since 2004. It’s not cheap, so if you’ve got the money, the time, and the interest, why not?! Cool ‘skill’ to have. Not sure she’s certified to fly that particular commercial aircraft, probably not, but, wow, what a story that’d be… If comedian Nathan Fielder can become a 737 pilot, anything is possible!

  9. @ 1990 She loves aviation. Twenty years ago she flew to lake havasu and had lunch at the pancake house.

  10. It’s so easy for commenters to claim it’s a PR stunt when any public appearance by public figures has a PR aspect. So I guess the commenters have only negative things to say about celebrity.

  11. @Dwondermeant — Depends. Did they pay with miles? Then no. But, if they purchased their tickets, hopefully they credited the Aeromexico tickets to their SkyTeam partner Delta SkyMiles accounts. Gotta get those partner MQDs, too. Shout out to our pal, @Tim Dunn! Keep climbing! 100 more years!

  12. @ 1990
But what if they credited the flight to “Aeromexico Rewards” instead of ‘Sky Pesos’ …
although the latter would be ‘acceptable’ as they were in Mexico after all !

  13. @bossa — Even in Mexico, I’d still prefer ‘SkyPesos’ (you know… for that 15% discount on award tickets thanks to the Delta Amex Reserve… save 150K on your 1 million point DeltaOne seat to Europe… yeesh.)

  14. Just because there was no entourage doesn’t mean there was no personal security nearby. They all don’t look like WWA wrestlers. Someone was there taking care of business, probably sitting in coach.
