A roundup of the most important stories of the day. I keep you up to date on the most interesting writings I find on other sites – the latest news and tips.
HOT FARE SALE: Several US Cities to Asia on United for Less Than $500 Roundtrip
United has an airfare sale that’s truly unique and worth a look for several cities in the US to several cities in Asia. The fares are strikingly great, you’ll want to pounce now if interested in flying to Asia between September and December.
These fares are available from Newark, Chicago, San Francisco, San Jose, Los Angeles, and Houston. You can fly roundtrip for under $500 to Ho Chi Minh City, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong, Taipei, Manila, or Jakarta.
American AAdvantage Devaluation: Up to 75% Fewer Miles on Partners With Less Than 3 Weeks Notice
I briefly noted last night that American had published new charts for earning miles on partner airlines.
The biggest change was to share how we’ll earn elite qualifying dollars on partner airlines. However they’ve also made changes — devaluations — to earning redeemable miles on partners and those changes go into effect in mere weeks.
American Just Published How You’ll Earn Qualifying Dollars on Partner Airlines. And Devalued Some Miles-Earning, Too.
Earning American AAdvantage elite status is going to require minimum spending next year in addition to miles flown.
Like Delta, they are also making it possible to earn qualifying dollars when flying on partner airlines. And American published the charts for earning elite qualifying dollars on partner airlines today.
They’ve also made changes (devalued) mileage earning on partner airlines again in a few instances.
There’s a New Reality for Upgrades. Here’s How to Get Into First Class.
It used to be that 100,000 mile flyers found themselves in first class nearly all the time, and even mid-tier frequent flyers found themselves in first class most of the time.
Here’s why upgrades have become harder to get — and what you can do about it.
One Hotel Truly Recognizes Loyalty — Even When You’re Not Paying Them a Cent
I often write that in loyalty, I am not my rate or my fare. I am either a valuable customer or I am not, and the way I’m treated should be the same on every single trip — whether I’m on an expensive walkup ticket for work during the week or a cheap discount trip with family over the weekend.
The Two Rewards Credit Cards I Like the Most
My single favorite card for earning valuable rewards points is the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card and it currently has its best-ever public offer that lets you earn 50,000 bonus points after you spend $4,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening.
But Citi Prestige earns even more points — triple, not double — than Sapphire Preferred on air and hotels. It doesn’t just earn double points on dining like Sapphire Preferred, but also ‘entertainment’ which is a broad category.
Lesser Known Rewards Cards You Should Know: the 5 Best Cards from Bank of America
There are a lot of cards that don’t get featured, that may work in specific cases for many of my readers. One of the things I frequently get asked, there are so many great but there’s only so many cards that you’re going to get approved for from a single issuer in a given time span. What about Bank of America and other issuers?
