News and notes from around the interweb:
- Hyatt announced yesterday that you can save your credit card to your profile on their website, so you don’t have to re-enter it every time you make a booking. Mommy Points is downright giddy. Me, I think it’s an improvement, but Google Chrome already saves the credit card I use and fills it in on the Hyatt website. Now if only they would let me save my AAA number there would be real progress!
- Bruce Schneier isn’t worried that the bar code on boarding passes which tell the TSA if passengers get precheck or not can be hacked, since things like ID check and no fly lists don’t contribute to security anyway — the TSA procedures that are different from precheck don’t make us more secure anyway. He thinks, though, that if they want to randomly deny precheck to some passengers, that “[i]t would be easier — and far more secure — if the boarding pass checker just randomly chose 10%, or whatever percentage they want, of PreCheck passengers to send through regular screening. Why go through the trouble of encoding it in the barcode and then reading it?”
- Loyalty Traveler explains Starwood’s new 10% – 30% discounts at hotel restaurants and bars for SPG members. Not all restaurants participate, the discount varies by hotel, and you have to explicitly ask for it.
- Dan’s Deals flags that $20 off $20 discount code PERKHOLIDAY at is stackable with current 30% off on photo books, makes creating physical manifestations of your holiday memories quite cheap, and making holiday gifts for friends and family inexpensive as well (if you think they’ll like your memories, that is, or if you just want to brag about those great uses of miles and points!).
Saving the AAA number would be another big step forward, I agree! Come on, Hyatt. You can do it! 😉
Cant auto fill on Chrome solve the CC and the AAA problem?
Couldn’t care less about the “security” implications of barcode hacking, but I certainly hope this doesn’t spell the end (or even any disruption) of precheck…
This is the extention you need for Chrome: Lazarus

It basically remembers everything you type into particular boxes and if your internet dies and your comment or whatever doesn’t go through, you click the upper right corner of the box and it will recover whatever you had typed in that box and all other boxes on the same page. Truly a great time saver.
