News and notes from around the interweb:
- Here’s what various airlines did for April Fools
- Former American Airlines Chairman Bob Crandall doesn’t like privacy rights very much.
- KLM providing customer service via WhatsApp
- For the ‘they shouldn’t even bother to send the email’ marketing file.
- Apparently those surgical masks some passengers wear (especially common in Asia) really do work.
- How Atlanta is competing with O’Hare to stay the world’s busiest airport.
UnitedContinental really did used to offer this:
Awesome Continental video! I guess airlines would just argue that since multimedia devices are so much smaller and more powerful now, they were able to get rid of those lounge/gaming areas to “enhance” the passenger experience – or something like that.
I met Bob Crandall at a Travelport conference last fall. The one thing I really took away from that – he speaks his mind!
The CO ad just makes me sad. When did we become a people who would settle for inhumane conditions in coach and a domestic FC that is not as nice as a seat in coach in the 1970’s? Also, when did we become a nation of mostly flip-flop wearing slobs?
By the way, does anyone know if Bob Crandall was in Berlin in Feb 1933? Just asking?
Love Bob Crandall! Too bad there aren’t more CEOs like him! @RoloT, Bob Crandall was born in 1935, so impossible for him to be in Berlin 1933.
N95 masks work, but this isn’t news and they’re not the surgical masks people usually wear. The article you link to says that “even a less efficient mask could be useful on a plane”, but then links to a study that makes no mention of surgical masks. Okay then. Thankfully the Wikipedia article at least is correct on this point: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surgical_mask#Usage
Guarantee that movie was not shot on a REAL PLANE. They used a mockup, and those were typically arranged as showcases that did not reflect actual cabin dimensions.
In the days before the takeover by Frank Lorenzo and Texas Air, CO was the airline of the stars, Hollywood stars that is. Thanks to Robert Six, his wife Audrey Meadows, and their Hollywood pals, it was not uncommon to see and even sit next to Hollywood starts on flights out of LAX.
@RoloT – “When did we become a people who would settle for inhumane conditions in coach and a domestic FC that is not as nice as a seat in coach in the 1970’s?”
When we decided that we wanted cheap airfare.
