News and notes from around the interweb:
- Booking Virgin America awards using Alaska miles can be a much better deal than booking with Virgin’s own Elevate points. Definitely want to compare pricing now that you can transfer Virgin America points to Alaska Airlines at a 1 to 1.3 ratio.
Grant booked San Francisco – New York in First Class for 69% fewer points after factoring the 30% transfer bonus.
Alaska Airlines just published their award chart for travel on Virgin America and the prices look pretty good. Intrastate works best for California since you can fly between SFO-LAX-SAN. …First class flights in the continental US are reasonably priced. Virgin America flights to Hawaii and Mexico can also be a good deal, assuming you can find award space and paid flights are expensive.

- Did the New York Giants trash a United 767 Sunday night after getting drubbed in Green Bay on Sunday?
The Giants took out their frustrations at blowing their first shot at the Super Bowl in five years by trashing the jumbo jet that carried them home — leaving it reeking of booze and forcing a major clean-up at Newark Airport, passengers who boarded the plane afterward told The Post on Monday.
Mark Kropf said he was waiting to board United Airlines Flight 934 out of Newark when “the pilot came out and asked for everyone’s patience, and shared where the plane came from and that the plane needed extra help repairing and cleaning the interior.”
“Another 30 minutes passed and the gate agent told us it was the Giants that destroyed the biz class cabin, and we saw service personnel walking countless seat cushions off the plane,”

- The manufacturer of American’s new uniforms speaks out on the controversy:
Twin Hill said it is working with the union to schedule a visit to its Houston distribution center to select uniforms for further testing. But it said the union has canceled scheduled visits on three separate occasions.
The company said it already offers a non-wool alternative for affected American employees and said it’s working on a new 100 percent cotton version.
“We want to resolve this problem. As far as we’re concerned, we have yet to see any kind of evidence suggesting there is something (wrong) within our garments. If there is, we want to get to the bottom of it,” Twin Hill spokesman Diego Louro said. “We are very concerned about the claims (the union) is making and we’re taking them very seriously.”

- $750,000 subsidy for American Airlines to fly to Traverse City, Michigan. Of course if American Airlines were as opposed to subsidies as they claim they wouldn’t have sought them for their new headquarters building, either. (HT: Dennis L.)
Gary, The story about the Giants trashing the plane has been disputed by the team, players and coach. Coach McAdoo called the report “Bullshit” and vehemently denied the allegations during his interview with Mike Francessa on WFAN this afternoon. Not sure why you only post comments from one side of the story above when even the article you link to contains statements from the team disputing it.
He is becoming more and more like a tabloid magazine you see in the supermarkets. Sensationalizing for the clicks. Blog beoming less and less of value everyday.
How can one tell if a United 767 is trashed, a terrible plane on a terrible airline may just look that way.
Also, why did someone call a 767 a “jumbo jet”? It’s barely a wide-body, let alone jumbo.
If that’s the case UA should bill the Giants for the repairs & cleaning.
