Capital One Travel is running a travel sale and Frequent Miler points out that it’s actually… amazing.
One of the best travel deals I’ve ever seen came up a decade ago, where Expedia was offering $200 off vacation packages. You could book flight and hotel and the destinations didn’t have to match. You could book a $10 hotel in Southeast Asia and have $190 towards a flight. You could then book a $50 flight and have $150 towards a hotel. And you could use those packages on the same trip, rinse repeat.
This Capital One deal works similarly, in a way, except that you’re limited to one booking for a destination. They’re running offers like $50, $100, or $200 off of a flight, and 10% – 40% off of hotels up to $200 off. The bigger discounts tend to be for non-U.S. destinations, but you don’t have to be flying from the U.S. to take advantage of them.
The flight discounts are available on one-way bookings not just roundtrip. So consider booking paid travel one way, award the other. Fly for.. $1?
A cheap one way ticket will get the same discount that a more expensive ticket will get. For example, let’s say you want to fly from New York to Miami this fall. Flights to or from Miami get discounted by $50 with this sale and with my first search I found an option on United costing just under $51. That means that after the $50 discount, it’d cost less than $1.
….Nick found flights from New York to Saint Martin for $0.90 after the discount with Spirit. If you’d rather not fly with Spirit, he also found flights on American Airlines and Copa for ~$13…[Y]ou can get $200 off flights to/from Cape Town. If you happened to already have travel booked there, you could book a flight from Cape Town to Nelspruit for ~$200 in order to visit Kruger National Park.
Bookings must be made by October 17 “or while supplies last” and already some of the deals are gone, so this is something to take a look at now if you have an open Capital One account.
The flight deals seem to be only for one person and can be used once. I was getting excited searching for family of 3 for PHL -> MIA roundtrip ($50 off deal on both sides) but when add more than 1 traveler the discount is only coming off first ticket. And saw terms and conditions that each specific offer can only be used once per account.
