Caught Off Camera: CNN Anchor’s Race Against Time Unveils Airline’s Tight Policy [Roundup]

News and notes from around the interweb:

  • GeoBreeze Travel interviews Ben Lipsey, head of Air France KLM Flying Blue

  • Why is it always Delta?

  • CNN anchor discovers the Contract Of Carriage. Doors close is at D10 but they can take away your seat 15 minutes to departure – that 5 minutes lets them process standbys into the seats of passengers who don’t make the flight.

Sometimes the flight isn’t full and they don’t need to do this, and you can still get on if you make it prior to the boarding door close, and sometimes they’re running behind, but you are never guaranteed.

  • Some of these Mexico flights – but especially Kansas City and St. Louis – are surprising, though Brian Sumers reports that Apple Vacations is buying a block of seats on each flight so those should work out fine.

  • United Airlines applied for one of the new ‘beyond perimeter’ slot exemptions at Washington National airport created by the FAA Reauthorization bill. They asked to operate a second non-stop to San Francisco, a route also flown by Alaska. That’s going to be a weak ask anyway. But they made their application even worse, because none of these new slots can be operated before 7 a.m. and United applied for a 6:30 a.m. flight. Yikes.

  • TSA Agent Faces Five Years in Jail After Making Two Bomb Hoaxes at Tulsa International Airport

  • TSA screeners got up to 31% raises and now they’re happy with their jobs
