A couple of weeks ago I wrote that American Express Platinum cards would still get you into US Airways and American lounges through the end of April.
Platinum cards lost access a month ago. Citibank is now the sole issuer of cards that offer lounge access with the new American Airlines.
And they’ve got – by far – the best credit card offer in the market with a 100,000 mile signup bonus for their Executive Card which bundles American and US Airways lounge access.
This month they’re ready to tell you about this card in American and US Airways lounges. If you come in with a card that used to come with lounge access, they’ll give you a club pass (valid for a year).
They’ve also given me plenty of miles and club passes to give away here on the blog!
I stopped into one club yesterday. And I discovered that they weren’t just giving away lounge passes (I picked one up that I’ll give away this weekend at Frequent Traveler University) but also giving away swag. They had dark chocolate in credit card wrappers. I ate that.
I figured, since Citi is being especially generous right now, why not share that with readers? I reached out they’ve generously offered to provide readers with miles and lounge passes for me to give away (for full disclosure I am not being compensated by Citibank, nor am I keeping any of the prizes for myself).
Here are the prizes:
- Grand Prize: 25,000 American AAdvantage miles and 4 American Admirals Club passes
- Four Additional Prizes: 4 American Admirals Club passes (each)
So here’s how you enter.
- Leave a comment on this blog post. Answer the question, “what do you really like about an airline lounge?”
- Enter by Noon Eastern, Sunday April 27. That’s 5 days from this writing, and there are five prizes.
- Enter no more than 5 times. Five prizes, five days to enter, you can enter by commenting up to five times. (It doesn’t have to be one per day, it can be five in a row if you wish.)
- Five prize winners will be drawn at random. As in past, I will use random.org for the drawing.
- Fine print. Void where prohibited by law. All of my decisions are final and unappealable, I want to make giveaways as easy as possible and with the fewest headaches possible. Redemption of Admirals Club passes are subject to Admirals Club Terms of Service and AAdvantage miles are subject to AAdvantage program terms.
So, what do you really like about an airline lounge?

A quiet place to picture myself in the first class cabin I’m about to board!
I like just the fact that even busy loungers are quieter and more calming than the general terminal.
“What do I really like about an airline lounge?” Most of all, a quiet place to sit, collect my thoughts and decompress, especially during a lay-over after a long trip.
I like having a (free) glass of wine and sitting down at a good work position and getting something accomplished.
Wifi
Hot showers
Snacks
Comfy seats
Snacks are nice, especially the breakfasts if I had to get up at a disgusting hour to catch my very early morning flight (and didn’t want to be wakened for the cheerios they serve the first class passengers).
the idea in general
Wifi
Having a place of my own
Quietness away from the crowds and free wifi.
Privacy
Preferential treatment
Breakfast
I remember a great lounge with relaxation chairs with headphones, I remember blankets (sort of like a MUCH MORE PLEASANT dentist chair) and nice classical music and a waterfall…
I have appreciated friendly, sympathetic help when stranded or looking for a better solution than my next flight.
I also have to admit that I’ve had some great several-hour naps in lounges, particularly those which have areas most people don’t seem to be aware of (or else I’m there at really odd times).
I love free and (most of the time) quick wifi
I love chowing down on unlimited food
It’s nice to feel a little pampered during a long layover
I appreciate being able to leave my belongings in one spot and not worry about something getting stolen, or security being summoned for a suspicion!
Quiet from the hustle and bustle of the airport.
Comfortable seats are certainly nice after being cooped up in economy
What I really like is a chance to charge my phone and tablet while having a glass or two before boarding a (usually) international flight.
Going to the bathroom without all of your belongings with you is a huge benefit.
Free wifi is a major benefit even now in 2014 where you would imagine most airports would have this by now.
Free snacks and bottled water which saves you money.
Showers (where available).
Having a nice breakfast when flying early in the morning and having to leave home or the hotel at the middle of the night.
Going to the bathroom without my bags.
Relaxing in a quiet corner without the noise and havoc of the terminal.
The peace and quiet
Outlets to charge my electronics before a long flight.
Free wifi and power ports so I can be productive
Shorter lines for getting help from an agent
The (usually sparse) food selection is better than nothing 😛
Nicer couches and seats to relax in.
I don’t know… I’ve never been to one. But I would like to.. and I have a fair amount of AA travel coming up!
But although I’ve never had the pleasure, I would certainly appreciating getting away from the crowds.
And not having to fight for a seat.
And food that is hopefully better than longhaul economy.
And free massage? Sign me up!
No annoying PA announcements about unattended luggage blaring in my ear.
Olives at the Admirals Club at JFK
Board games at Admirals Club tr ORD
Reservations agents who tend to me more helpful than those out in the terminal.
A bite to eat while waiting for an early morning flight.
Showers in a lounge is absolutely the greatest perk to have.
