News and notes from around the interweb:
- United’s President says the most effective channel for credit card signups is onboard announcements by flight attendants. United hadn’t allowed it because their deal with Chase didn’t include the issuer paying a premium for it, which is dumb because that cuts of ongoing card revenue to United as well. Kirby shared they had had a ‘reset’ meeting of sorts with Chase. You still can’t apply onboard but the card is being promoted onboard.
- Woman says Delta Air Lines held her puppy hostage in Guatemala. (Fortunately the puppy was released after 33 hours.)
Now she is dealing with what she calls a “hostage situation” as her dog remains in airline custody and Delta Air Lines agents are demanding she pay an additional $3,000 before her husband can retrieve the pet from cargo where it has been held for more than 24 hours.
- Southwest Rapid Rewards is giving art to its most frequent flyers
- Etihad Close to Hiring Bank to Weigh Air Berlin Stake Sale
- Targeted offer but telling, American AAdvantage is offering some customers elite qualifying miles for crediting hotel stays. We’ve seen this regularly with Delta (from way back in 2008 through recent times) but this is newer for American.
- United sorry for falsely accusing gay father of fondling his child
- Lyft is launching a new luxury rideshare option (HT: Alan H.)
The new luxury offerings, called Lyft Lux and Lyft Lux SUV, will start in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco and San Jose. The company said it will expand to 20 cities this summer allowing customers to book a Tesla, BMW, Rolls-Royce or another premium ride. Vehicles available to Lux passengers are fancier than those on Premier, Lyft’s existing high-end service, which it will continue to offer.
We got the story the headline promised about a tortured pet, but the part about “Where to Start in Miles and Points” appears to be a clickbait, which perfectly encapsulates what this blog has devolved into. It seems that increasingly since United’s Triple D-Day (Doctor Dao Dragging) there have been more tabloid-like posts involving tortured pets, cockpit/cabin dalliances or some other travel-related malfeasance, than on hard-hitting travel hacking tricks that I suspect initially attracted most of this site’s readership. Am I the only one getting this impression?
Agree with DCS
It was a mistake or a glitch, I accidentally deleted the link to ‘where to start’ so I fixed the subject line.
Too bad they are EQM and not EQD. Can’t imagine 1000 EQM will make much of a difference. I wonder how many people will miss hitting the status they have based on EQM because they are short on EQD.
@DCS thats cause Gary needs to make it look like he cares for his fellow humans 🙂
