Delta’s CEO: People Won’t Lose Their Jobs Due To Vaccine Mandate

Delta says they’ll hit 95% employee vaccination next month, and they’ll consider religious and medical exemptions, so they expect to have “1% or 2%” of their employees left without either. CEO Ed Bastian refuses to say what happens to those employees come December 8, a deadline the Biden administration has set for government contractors to hit 100% compliance. But Bastian emphasized that they’re getting this done “without a mandate.”

On CNBC’s Squawk Box this morning he said,

I think the spirit of the vaccine mandate was to get people vaccinated, it wasn’t to try to force people with the threat of their jobs if companies are doing the right thing.

Is Bastian saying that 98% will be good enough and the Biden administration will blink?

I’ve actually expected that the December 8 deadline will push, but not until we get close, because if major airlines are far off from compliance the Biden administration won’t want to be blamed for ruining holiday travel due to mass cancellations.

They’ll need a reason for the delay, of course, that isn’t this. They will want to declare victory, or offer an extension on technical grounds. This will be especially tough to avoid if Covid-19 prevalence in the U.S. is low overall as the end of November approaches.

The OSHA mandate, which just dropped, doesn’t have nearly the legal certainty behind it that requiring vaccination for government contract eligibility appears to. The strategy here, too, seems to be just like extending the CDC eviction moratorium after the Supreme Court was clear that it was not supported by statutory authority. In other words, use it as a tool to encourage vaccination – and by the time courts have had a chance to weigh in, it will have done its job.

  1. An approved vaccine is not available in the US – and it won’t be until the manufacturers can continue their zero-liability approach. The Biden mandate has not been signed – because they know it is unconstitutional and will be brought down in court. No mandate, no vaccine… this is all coercion, and it is VERY un-American.

  2. Bastian is showing why Delta has long been considered one of the best run airlines in the world.

In the midst of one of the divisive moments in modern western history, Delta is distinctly navigating the world differently than the vast majority of other companies – and the government.

If the goal is to achieve vaccination, Delta will achieve it and its employees won’t be bullied as so much of the rest of society is.

  3. DL is just charging the unvaccinated $200 extra a month in insurance fees (which I support) and the will need to be tested a few times a wekk, but they can infect passengers , fellow employees and their own friends and family.

Mandates aren’t the answers, but how do you educate people who are brainwashed about saving their own life and others around them?

  4. Ed Bastian, like any good business leader understands that his greatest asset are his employees.

  5. Simple solution to force vaccinations is the $200/month healthcare surcharge. IT WORKS! Now, all the healthcare companies need to follow this policy. A more effective solution would be for healthcare companies to state that they will no longer cover hospital stays for the unvaccinated. That would end all this “my body, my decision” bullshit.

Measles was eliminated in the USA, but when the anti-vaxxers started all their BS, measles came roaring back. This anti-vax political BS is endangering the country and its citizens. I wish we could deport these traitors!

First of all….. don’t compare measles vaccines to this please! all of our other and previous vaccines we have had were tested for at least 5 years, this one has NOT!
Charging people for not getting vaccinated is beyond horrible, this is living in a communist country!
Anyway, look at all the people that have been vaccinated that have gotten covid! Look up what they are doing in India, a VERY crowded country, they are NOT vaccinating, they are using Ivermectin, a reperposed medicine and it WORKS!

  7. Omg @ampy. Are you talking about this from India Today?

“The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the National Task Force on Covid-19 have dropped the use of Ivermectin and Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) drugs from their revised guidelines for the treatment of the infection.

The decision was taken after experts found that these drugs have little to no effect on Covid-related mortality or clinical recovery of the patient.”

India has delivered 1 billion vaccine doses to their citizens and is running about 6 million vaccinations a day. They intend to vaccinate all 1.3 billion Indians. No one, anywhere in the real world, believes horse dewormer works on a virus. Biology just doesn’t work that way no matter how many silly entertainers on Fox say it does.

  8. And the vaccinated…….. continue to get infected and spread covid. Nice vaccine you got there.

  9. @ampy I’m Indian and and am therefore requesting you not to spread BS. vaccinations started off slowly but are taking place at an increasing speed to the extent that entire slums are now at 80% vaccination

  10. Thank you Southwest employees. You forced Bastian’s hand. 22 more flights this year on the greatest airline (Delta) and not one delay or cancel!

  11. @ Ampy. You are correct about India but it is only in several states that have had great success with Stromectol (Merck Ivermectin). The other states follow the WHO narrative with their hands out for more subsidies.

US FAR’s prohibit pilots from taking any new drugs have been NOT BEEN APPROVED by FDA for ONE YEAR. The rule specifically states this law is in effect to minimize unknown reactions with holders of FAA Medical Certificates.
Biden Administration will need more lies to get past this law which is not a mandate or press release request.

  12. @ Been There. Best you update your research with Stromectol regarding its uses. CNN is not a reliable source . . . Falsus in uno, falsus in omni.
City of Hope and many other outstanding research facilities are finding that IVM is truly a wonder drug, right there with aspirin and penicillin.
BTW, I lived and worked there too (SpiceJet). Generally nice people but I’ll stick with INDIA (I’ll Never Do It Again). I use to layover in Bombay and Delhi in the late 70s early 80s. When I took the job in 2008 I thought it couldn’t be much worse than it had been. I was wrong. But then so was Karachi.

  13. All these mandates for government contractors, but wait— isn’t the USPS a huge government contractor? Yes, and they are not required to get the jab to keep their jobs. Their union fought for them and they won! Now with the airlines threatening to fire anyone who doesn’t comply… right before the holidays are upon us, I really think it would be wise to not fire employees.

  16. It’s obviously a conspiracy theory by complete whackjobs who would ever think that the immune system could do what is designed to do. Clearly we need to inject experimental chemicals with no track record of curing the disease. Of course it stands to reason that everyone must get it for it to work. I walk this earth scared to death of getting tetanus because I don’t know if the people next to me care enough about my health to have had their tetanus shot. They should all be held down and forcefully injected so that I don’t have to live in fear! The nerve of some people! Don’t they understand that they can infect me even though I’ve had my tetanus shot because they were stupid enough to not get theirs?

Oh, some of y’all are retarded. No need to be nice about it. Please be the first in line to stack up on my door to force me to get jabbed. Make sure your affairs are in order first.

  17. If the vaccine is so effective, why would one who is vaccinated worry about contracting covid 19 from the unvaccinated. Can’t have it both ways.
