Eight Years, A Pandemic, And A Pronoun Fight Later. Today, United’s Brooks Brothers Uniforms Finally Debut

United Airlines crew are wearing old uniforms for the last time, as frontline employees debut their new Brooks Brothers uniforms on Wednesday.

This is a continuation of the rollout of new uniforms that’s been in process since 2017. We actually got a first look at the collection from designer Tracy Reese and Brooks Brothers in 2019. Ground and maintenance workers received new uniforms in 2020. Then the pandemic hit and the rest of the rollout was delayed.

Covid-19 and the change in administration in 2021 brought the introduction of personal pronouns on name tags for flight attendants and customer service agents (but the airline did not wish to anger pilots and didn’t make this part of theirs).

@whatislauren Have you heard?! Our new uniform can be seen worn in the terminals on 5/28 can’t wait! @United Airlines *shot on closed set #unitedairlines #flightattendant #flightattendantlife #flightcrew #flightcrewlife #cabincrew #cabincrewlife #cabincrewgirls #airhostess #flightattendantuniform #uniform #airline #airlinetiktok #united #fypppp #cabincrewuniform ♬ original sound – Pretty girl

@thegateagent_mua The time has arrived everyone’s getting their new uniform kits!!! I just wanted to model some of Kit A for you guys!!! As a wear tester and Uniform Ambassador I can say I’m so excited the time is finally here!!!! My daughter said we “Ate” with the new uniforms so great job @United Airlines ✈️ #airlinetiktok #gateagentstories ♬ original sound – thegateagent_mUA

Flight attendants received uniform launch kits back in February but distribution was uneven with some items unavailable. Sizes were frequently off and $70 per dress alteration budgets had to be allocated.

  1. but the airline did not wish to anger pilots

Pilots, of the white male Republican variety, are insufferable. They’re both overpaid and losers at the same time. Overpaid because who tf deserves $500k for being a glorified bus driver? And losers because if you’re a white male in America making less than $5m you’re a total loser. White men with even a semblance of a work ethic make partner at shit tier law firms that have profit per partner in the $5 million range now. So if you’re a white male and you don’t even make that? Get outta town. I guess literally, in the cockpit of a plane that generally flies itself because of the hard intellectual work of immigrants at Boeing who programmed the plane to fly.

    REPUBLICANS SUCK AND ARE STUPID.

  2. Gary, would you ‘do me your kindness,’ and throw in a few extra ‘red meat’ buzzwords for that rage-bait of a title? Like, I was thinking, add ‘vaccine’ and ‘diversity’ would have been a home run.

@Un — Some of them used to be a sane and principled, then Iraq, 2016, and J6 happened. Now, they’re in full-clown/traitor mode.

  3. Un as in unhinged? What the hell is this ranting all about? To quote Alvin Lee – “Tell me, where is saniity?”

  4. Gary,
it was so fun here for a few nanoseconds after you cleaned up the political hacks that show up on every article.

Time for a little late spring cleaning?

so, 8 years to roll out uniforms… sounds about in line with the Polaris rollout for a seat that was obsolete the day it first appeared and will second tier to UA’s “new” business class product which will SLOWLY roll out later this year.

congrats to UA employees on the new uniforms…. hopefully the new FA contract and uniform will add a spring to your step and encourage the mechanics to storm a corporate event or two or add 100 new billboards to get themselves a new contract.

  5. @Tim Dunn — Cold blooded… Bah! Speaking of ‘ancient,’ I cannot believe UA still has its 772s with the 2-4-2 reverse-facing ‘lie-flat’… (the 90s called, they want their ‘new age’ seats back. Oof.)

  6. @Un

Lol someone suffer from white male envy.
Sorry about your inferiority complex. Lol you tears nourish me because I know you come from a position of envy.

  7. Always live when a company okay up new uniforms like they stole the show at Paris Fashion Week. It’s. Rook’s Brothers, not Saint Laurent. The uniforms are fine. Far better than Southwest. Nowhere close to Qatar and the other ME3 and elite Asian carriers.

@1990 UA loves those high-density 777s for domestic and short hops ton places like SJU and CUN. Nothing special but still better than domestic F.

  8. @1990

This country is nothing without them, they created it, they keep it running and their taxes pay for the food of those that aren’t capable of even feeding themselves.

  9. @Parker — Yes, lie-flat almost always better than a recliner, or a seat in the back, for sure. UA flies those 772s often to HNL as well. It’s sad when they try to send one to Europe (saw one for IAD-CDG recently), where they really should only have ‘true’ 1-2-1 Polaris.

@Walter Barry — You bet that I and others reject your ‘supremist’ views.

By ‘them’ are we still even talking about ‘Republicans,’ as in, the political party founded in 1854? If so, that can’t be the same people who ‘created’ the ‘country,’ since, you know, 1776 is well before then. You should recall that Washington warned against such rabid partisanship, too.

Unless, based on your response to @Un above, you were generally referring to what you called “white males,” in which case, nearly everyone pays ample taxes, regardless of identity.

On food, hardly anyone grows, picks, or prepares their own food in 2025. Are you a farmer? Well, a lot of those folks that do ‘farm’ happen to be migrants (which, I’m gonna go out on a limb here and assume you aren’t a ‘fan’ of those ‘types’ based on your prior comments here…)

And, unless you’re a Native American, we’re all immigrants and decedents of them here. We’re a pluralistic, multi-racial, secular nation. Also from 1776, “all men are created equal” is from the Declaration of Independence. (And they meant ‘people’ not just that gender.)

  10. @1990

Rejecting reality, logic and reason is what you delusional people do.
We and society are well aware of this fact.

Are you really gonna spend all day on this site? Of course you are.

  11. Tim Dunn says, “Congrats to UA employees on the new uniforms…. hopefully the new FA contract and uniform will add a spring to your step and encourage the mechanics to storm a corporate event or two or add 100 new billboards to get themselves a new contract.”

I hope the new United Airlines uniforms will not make flight attendants sick, reporting skin rashes, shortness of breath, and hair loss, as happened at Delta Air Lines. See the flight attendant skin rash photos: https://www.theguardian.com/business/2019/apr/03/delta-flight-attendants-uniforms-rash-claims

Furthermore, in November 2023, a jury in California ruled that a clothing company should pay more than $1 million to four American Airlines flight attendants who blamed chemicals used in the production of their uniforms for causing a variety of ailments, including rashes, headaches, and breathing problems. 12. 1990
yeah, we have UA fankiddos that incessantly tell us how updated and uniform Polaris is while attacking DL’s 9 ex-Latam A350s.
newsflash for them: half of that fleet is now converted to DL’s new 40 seat Delta One cabin configuration or are in the process of configuration.
Meanwhile, UA is still flying scores of narrowbodies including 757s that don’t even have direct aisle access along w/ the aformentioned 777As.

the most significant part of the new FA uniforms is that language qualified FAs have a language bar under their nametag instead of flags – which is not a direct connection to languages anyway.

Like most stuff, UA is last in line – other airlines long ago got rid of flag pins in favor of a language bar

  13. @Tim Dunn — Well said. I don’t mind those 2-2-2 LATAM a350s, namely because the length and spaciousness of that lie-flat is hard to find these days. Of course, a suite (with a door) is nice, too!

On the uniforms, I’ve always like Brooks Brothers stuff, but, it’s rather subjective; just happens to fit me well. Hope the crews like them (comfort would be nice).

@Walter Barry — I’m still around. Folks come and go as they please. All are welcome here.

  14. Un

So, I guess you would have preferred Chesley Sullenberger was not around in 2009 and a couple of hundred people had lost their lives….
    Really nice attitude.
Have you ever thought of not being a bigot?
    You’d likely be much happier.

  15. BB went BK during Covid. Is BB still BB?
@Parker. You wouldn’t wear YSL to meet a client or go to court.
