News and notes from around the interweb:
- Yesterday I wrote about a great new Priority Pass lounge at Washington Dulles airport that joins more than 40 lounges in the US you can access with one of their cards.
Over the summer I noted that the club lounge at the Sofitel London Heathrow Terminal 5 is now a Priority Pass lounge. Well, now Grain Store Cafe & Bar at London Gatwick is as well — you get a £15 credit per person, so a family of four would get a £60 credit. Eat up, then visit the No1 Lounge also in the South Terminal.
- Last minute Valentine’s Day: 30 United miles per dollar at 1-800-Flowers or 30 Amtrak points per dollar with promo code AMT56.
- In December I shared my Basic Principles for Getting Where You Need to Go When Flights Cancel. When airline agents say nothing is available that usually isn’t true — just nothing that any sane person would want. Tiffany sums it up nicely,
My general strategy for airline schedule shenanigans is the same you’d employ in a zombie apocalypse: keep moving or die.
- Not new information as such, but coverage of American’s LAX gate moves from the LAX Capital Improvements newsletter.
- My pessimism about commercial air service to Cuba forms the basis of coverage in Cuban Spanish-language opposition media. One of the more surreal moments..
- Qatar Airways is scrapping the idea of a Saudia subsidiary… for now
- “Everyone in India has a favourite Air India story—not an IndiGo story, not a SpiceJet or a Jet Airways story. There is a reason for it.”
AA renumbered the Eagles Nest gates 60A-I in 2016… have they renumbered those gates YET AGAIN…? Never saw that announced anywhere.
Sounds like the Cuban economy is just too frail right now to support leisure travel. If getting a passport costs six months’ salary and a round-trip flight is a year’s salary, who besides tourists will be flying out of Havana?
By the way, pretty cool to see basically the whole article pointing to Gary’s take–great piece of journalism, Gary!
