bmi keeps cycling their offers for new members to join, this one has been around awhile but is pretty good, Blue Plus status and 4500 miles just for joining.
Blue Plus doesn’t benefit you meaningfully on bmi’s partners, but actually flying bmi you get lounge access and you don’t pay for buy on board meals.
Plus free miles are nice in a program that (a) doesn’t filter out Star Alliance partner award availability like United does, (b) has a lovely cash and points award chart which lets miles go a long way, (c) permits one-way awards, and (d) still gives 600 miles minimum per segment (so it’s where I credit my shorthaul United and US Airways flights).
Any idea if a boarding pass needs to be presented for lounge access?
Blue + does NOT give you lounge access on bmi, that starts with silver.
It only gives you complimentary meal deal on certain routes.
I thought so as well, though the linked offer specifically says loujnge access.. Strange.
Since I had signed up the recent 3000 mile offer, I used this opportunity to reward my procrastination and sign up my wife for 4500 miles 🙂
The status shows up as “Blue”. Maybe it doesn’t bump up to blue plus instantaenously? Doesn’t really matter anyway, I’ll just use it for Hertz rentals and those <500 mile segments for the time being.
Also wonder what happens if/when BMI gets bought out by LH — are they going to merge the miles into M&M? That would seem like instant devaluation.
The membership id numbers are rather strange. When I signed up a few weeks ago, my number was in the 190,000s. Today my wife got one slightly north of 270,000. Surely they have more than 270,000 members?
In any case, thanks for the tip, Gary!
