News and notes from around the interweb:
- I Do This: Get two room keys, even when you’re traveling alone. One of them will fail often enough, saves a trip back down to the front desk.
- Delta will roll out Comfort+ extra legroom seating as a separate fare class in certain Asian, Caribbean, and Latin American markets starting September 19 like they did with domestic flights last week.
- This is how Thai airplane food gets made (HT: Dan W.) Interesting observation from Bangkok Airways, an airline that certainly provides enough flatware for a meal on a one hour flight in my experience.
“There’s a limited area for airlines to compete,” Amorn said. “Now it comes to food.” In Amorn’s opinion, airlines can only drop their prices so low, only offer so much in-flight entertainment. That leaves room to shine in the culinary department.
- The High Price of Security Theater Where did the money go? Closer to home, via Reid F., TSA gavemy Macbook Pro to another passenger at LAX and now it’s gone.
- It’s never the attractive ones, either.
- Come Thanksgiving Southwest Airlines will exceed 4000 flights in a single day.
- Inverted Jenny re-emerges after 61 years. Not travel, but planes — and postage stamps.

I get two room keys for exactly that reason.
I used to insist on two room keys, since yes, eventually one would fail, usually 3-4 days later.
My friend (another frequent traveller) suggested putting the cards inside those “credit-card RFID blockers”. I didn’t think that would work, but apparently it deflects the magnetic field that erases the cards. I ordered a pack of 10 (to make sure I’d always have one), and in the two years I’ve been using them, I’ve had a fail only once, instead of once a week.
I get 2 keys not because cards fail or I lose them but so that the room can be cool when I return from dinner, especially in Southeast Asia.
Your used picture is not that of an original upside-down Jenny stamp. It is the recent $2 rerelease.
The famous stamp has its own website.

Another reason to get two keys is so that you can leave one in the slot by the door that powers up the electricity, for rooms that are so equipped (often in Europe, but seem to be running into more in the US too).

I always carry a few spare hotel cards from previous stays for that. Works for all the mag-card readers, but has failed on a few that require an RFID chip.
We have the block piece of a Jenny propeller that my Grandfather watched crash in San Antonio at flight school toward the end of WWI. Those planes really changed the face of aviation!
