Giveaway: 5 Nights in a Suite in Sri Lanka Plus Dinner and Massages

I love Sri Lanka. And since I’ve been to the Maldives each of the past 5 years, it’s been easy to visit, as the capital Colombo is less than 500 miles away. There is no such thing as bad Sri Lankan food and I even go out of my way to stop for Sri Lankan when flying out of New York JFK.

I was back in Colombo earlier this year, and I’d go back in a heartbeat but want to spend more time outside the capital than I have so far.

One of my readers will get the chance before I will because I’m giving away a stay at MAYA Sri Lanka.

In fact I’m giving away 5 nights in a suite at the property including:

  • Sri Lankan dinner for 2
  • Massages for 2
  • Cooking class for 2

The hotel is a 3 hour drive from Colombo, or a 35 minute air taxi from there. It’s a true boutique and exclusive property with just 5 suites. Here’s the Luxury Travel Diary review of the hotel.

The property seems to get perfect reviews and has received a ‘Certificate of Excellence’ from TripAdvisor.

Pro tip: MAYA Sri Lanka is a Mr. and Mrs. Smith boutique hotel and is just up the road from Amanwella. Lovers of luxury travel know what that means. Grab a taxi super cheap and spend an evening or two drinking cocktails around the pool at Amanwella.

This is a very special giveaway, thanks to my good friends at Luxury Travel Diary. Regular readers know them as a high-end travel blog with great reviews. They’re based in the UK and run travel auctions with real bargains.

As I’ve said before, folks who already know about these auctions don’t like this added attention, because there don’t seem to be enough bidders for many of their best offerings relative to the value available. Some of their items go way too cheap.

This prize is being given away by the hotel and Luxury Travel Diary, I’m just helping to highlight it and randomly select the winner.

To enter: leave a comment on this post with your favorite item up for auction at Luxury Travel Diary, or why you would choose to stay at Maya. You may enter two times if you wish and answer those two questions one time each in separate comments.

Contest deadline and drawing winner: Entries close Friday, June 24 at Noon eastern. I will draw winner with the assistance of random.org.

The fine print: Advance booking is required and it’s subject to availability. Terms and conditions apply. Winner will have one week to respond to email notifying of the prize, otherwise the prize will be forfeit and made available to another reader.

For avoidance of doubt, I have no affiliation with Luxury Travel Diary or Maya. I am not getting anything in exchange for running this giveaway other than an opportunity to share the place with readers.

The hotel is solely responsible for providing prize to winner. All decisions made in the course of running this giveaway are final and unappealable and your entry signifies your acceptance. The goal here is to make readers aware of a pretty cool auction opportunity, and to give away a stay. So please don’t make it hard on me for doing so!

  1. I would love to stay at the Maya. The suites look fantastic, as does the pool. The reviews of the food are fantastic and it looks like there is a lot to do!

  2. Spent 5 days in Sri Lanka last month to visit the sites in the Cultural Triangle.
I recommend the travel agent “Traumaland tours”.
    Would love to go back

  3. We just booked the trip to Srilanka in Jan, so excited about it. Hope to try some of the luxury hotels there.

    Cheers,
    Yang

  4. My auction favorite item is the 4 Nights In A Pool Villa At The 5* Milaidhoo Island Maldives. I’m taking my mom and my sister to Sri Lanka and the Maldives this January. My mom hasn’t traveled in over 20 years and my sister has never left the US. The Maldives is going to blow their minds.

  5. My favorite auction item is probably this: 4 NIGHTS FOR 6 PPL IN A LUXURY VILLA IN KOH SAMUI, THAILAND. A private pool for 4 days on a beautiful island? Hell yeah.

  6. Maya looks absolutely amazing! I have never been to Sri Lanka but I would love to go! I have no idea some of the history and beautiful temples until checking out the Maya site! Beautiful!

  7. I would stay at MAYA because I’ve been looking for a hotel that my elderly mother would find comfortable but with a local feel. A major hotel chain or one within Colombo would feel a bit more sterile and wouldn’t give the true essence of the country, people, and culture. Getting away from that without having to sacrifice nice facilities is truly ideal.

  8. At the Maya you can have dinner, massages and cooking classes? That’s why I’d stay there. Sign me up!

  9. My favorite auction item is the 5 nights a Villa Koru, Koh Samui, Thailand.
    Seems fantastic!

  10. 3 Nights At Sleeping Giant Rainforest Lodge In Belize, Central America would be by auction go-to. That looks awesome.

  11. I would choose to stay at Maya because I’ve never been to Sri Lanka and that hotel just looks AMAZING.

  12. I met a very interesting and personable architect from Sri Lanka on a mileage run to Sri Lanka and have been looking for an excuse (way?) to visit him in his hometown/country. 5 nights in a luxury suite at Maya Sri Lanka would make finding a way to Colombo feasible.

  13. The Maya looks absolutely spectacular… not to mention cooking classes AND massages? My wife would be elated.

  14. I like the Paia Inn Boutique Hotel for just one reason…my wonderful bride of 34 years loves to go whale watching off Maui…and this would be a great base for doing so! Paia is also an iconic Hawaiian small town (one traffic light, I believe).

  15. My favorite auction is for the 2 nights in the yurt in Cumbria. There should be more auctions for yurt stays.

  16. Heard Maya resorts are incredible but never had the opportuntiy to stay at one

  17. I like the 4 NIGHTS IN A POOL VILLA AT THE 5* MILAIDHOO ISLAND MALDIVES up for auction.

  18. My preferred item to bid on is the dinner for 2 at Darbaar in London. Great sampling menu for persons less exposed to Indian cuisine, a good atmosphere and a bottle of wine make the beginnings of a solid evening.

  19. I would stay at Maya to be able to use the Aman amenities nearby. That would be freakin’ great

  20. Sri Lanka is supposed to have amazing culture and people too, I’d love to explore!

  21. Simply, Maya looks amazing. And Colombo offers solid flight options to Asia, Middle East and Europe.

  22. would be interested in staying at Maya as a surprise for my wife’s birthday and/or 10 year anniversary

  23. Sri Lanka is one of the favorite places I have ever been. I haven’t explored much of the area around Colombo though so would love a chance to go back!

  24. Favorite item up for auction may be the Yurt in Scotland! Looks fun, and nice and cool up in Scotland.

  25. Why stay at the Maya? Always wanted to go to Sri Lanka (and the Maldives!), and love the reviews on tripadvisor. Aman level food sounds nice. Great service and baby friendly even!
