Giveaway: National Car Rental Executive Elite Status

As promised last week, I’m giving one lucky blog reader National Car Rental Emerald Executive Elite status.

As I mentioned, I have Executive status with National myself (but not ‘Executive Elite’).

National’s unique selling proposition is its ‘Emerald Aisle’ where Emerald Club members pick their own car. Just cruise the aisle and pick the one you want from that area of the rental lot, it’s not just about picking the car with the lowest miles or the most prestige on offer but sometimes you want a bigger car for more people or a smaller car for easier parking.

It’s much nicer than getting assigned a car you don’t want, and then queueing for a rental counter agent to beg to be switched to something else. Much faster, too.

Emerald Club <I?Executive members get to pick from the ‘Executive Aisle’ which tends to have a greater, broader selection of better cars.

Here’s a comparison of National’s elite levels.

  • Executive status is earned after 12 rentals or 40 rental days. Regular Emerald Club members earn free rental days every 7 rental credits, Executive members earn free rental days after 6 credits and their free days are valid on a full size car not just a midsize.

  • Executive Elite is earned after 25 rentals or 85 rental days. Every 5 rental credits earns a free rental day, valid for any car that’s available. Executive Elite members also get guaranteed reservations with 24 hours notice. And in practice the treatment received is better than the published benefits, or so Executive Elite members tell me.

Want Executive Elite status for a year?

  • All you need to do to enter is leave a comment to this post, either how you would make use of rental car elite status or what one thing would make the car rental experience better for you?

  • Only enter once. Anyone leaving more than one comment will not be eligible to win.

  • I will draw a winning comment at random using random.org

  • The contest will remain open for entries through Friday, April 29 at 6pm Eastern.

This is a giveaway, I don’t get anything by offering it, all interpretations of rules are mine and it isn’t mean to be a strict terms and conditions just a friendly gesture to benefit readers. If you have a question, please don’t post it as a comment here since you only get one entry! Instead email me.

Enter away, good luck on Executive Elite status, and thanks for the giveaway opportunity, National!

  1. Looks like National Executive Elite is better than Hertz President’s Circle – 1 free rental every 5 rentals and any car of your choosing. Nice!!!

  2. Executive Elite will get me back to National. They used to have a great weekend deal with AA for extra bonus miles, but they seemed to have taken that away- so I have reserved with other companies for our summer trips. They’ll be cancelled if I get status with National.

  3. National’s best feature is pick your own car. The more varied the selection on the Aisle, the better.

  4. The Emerald Aisle would be awesome for me since I’m 6′ 8″ tall. Fitting in my own car is hard enough, but having the luxury to pick my own rental car would be a dream!

  5. Getting status will actually influence me to rent a car… usually use cabs and/or shuttles and love public transportation, but I wouldn’t say no to my own car in the city.

  6. Being 6’4 in a small compact hardly ever works. Status would mean no longer driving with my knees!

  7. Cars in the Exec section should all be leather only! I wish they would occasionally also throw in a few premium/luxury cars in there. But yeah, exec Elite would automatically make National my #1 choice for rentals.

  8. Thanks for the giveaway. This would be good for the two upcoming family trips with a 3yo in tow!

  9. I’ve been planning a cross-country trip and was trying to think how to do it. Originally I was going to hitchhike a bit (my mother was not pleased, even though I’m a grown man), then I was planning to ride the bus in between cities where I have friends, and visit a bunch where I know no one. If I were to get this View from the Wing Award, I have to say it would be *amazing*, because I would rent a car in between any locations I could and thus get to do the great American road trip, a national National tour!

  10. I’d love to see elite status get free gps or maybe 2 hours free grace period. Bottled water waiting in the car would be nice too!

  11. I’m an Emerald Executive and love the benefits it provides. I’m curious about the Emerald Executive Elite status and would love to give it a try!

  12. I’m already a Presidents Circle & Presidents Club member and would love to give National a try.

  13. Once a year we rent from National for one week in Albuquerque. I always look with envy over at the Executive aisle. I am an Emerald Aisle member, and National’s flexibility is a nice perk and differentiator.

  14. Elite status would help me get better quality cars for the same or cheaper price as before. And the better customer service is always a plus!

  15. Sometimes, the rental car aspect of travel is almost as bad as the flying. Elite status would be a huge help.

  16. Always like the better treatment at the elite levels and would love to try Emerald Executive Elite status!

    Thanks for the contest!

  17. Saving time on going back to the rental counter once you get assigned something terribly bulky.

  18. Exec Elite would be nice to redeem my free rental days for guaranteed nicer or specialty vehicles.

  19. It would be nice to be able to choose the rental car, and having guaranteed 24-hour reservations would be helpful.

  20. I visit my dad a lot in florida and it would be great to take him around town in a really nice car when I visit.

  21. It would be nice if rental car companies would check every returned car for cigarette smoke, and actually clean (not just spray air freshener all over) the cars that come back smelling of smoke. It seems like half the time when I rent a car, I get one that reeks of smoke.
