GIVEAWAY: Top Tier Hyatt Status

World of Hyatt loyalty program changes start today.

Hyatt’s Top Elite Status Has Become Tougher to Get But More Valuable to Have

It’s harder to reach top tier elite status — no more qualifying on stays, no more credit towards top status via credit card spend, and 60 nights instead of 50 to qualify — for those who reach “Globalist” status it’s the most generous top tier in the industry among major programs.

And it’s even better on net than Hyatt’s Diamond status was before. While there are some tradeoffs (like breakfast for 2 adults and 2 children instead of 4 adults, and no more check-in amenity), there are real improvements:

  • My Hyatt Concierge – a dedicated agent to take care of all things related to Hyatt, similar to Starwood’s Ambassador (SPG requires 100 nights for this perk).

  • Upgrades at check-in now include standard suites.

  • Confirmed suite upgrades now valid on award nights, and you can earn more than 4 in a year — an additional suite upgrade or 10,000 points at 70, 80, 90, and 100 nights in a year.

  • A free night at any participating Hyatt property upon reaching 60 nights, waived resort fees, and free parking on award stays.

I’m Giving Away Top Tier Hyatt Status to a Reader

Hyatt offered me a Globalist status to give away. I’m not going to do the usual ‘answer a question in the comments and I’ll pick at random’ method. Instead what I’d love is for you to share why or how you’ll benefit from Hyatt Globalist status, and we’ll pick one winner based on the comments.

I’ve got someone who is going to choose for me. I’d love for the Globalist status to go to someone who will get good use out of it and find it meaningful. Entries close Tuesday, March 7 at Noon eastern. All decisions are final and unappealable, you agree that I’ll have no liability for offering this contest. I’m just trying to help a reader here, so please don’t give me a hard time!

What Gifted Globalist Will Get You — and What It Won’t

Gifted status doesn’t come with the perks that are earned based on night (or spend) thresholds. So it won’t come with the free night for reaching 60 nights, 4 confirmed suite upgrades, My Hyatt Concierge or reduced qualification requirements for the coming year (the need to stay 55 rather than 60 nights to keep status).

But you will receive:

  • Upgrades including suites subject to availability, as well as club lounge access
  • Breakfast in the hotel restaurant when no club lounge is available
  • Free parking on award stays, and no resort fees on paid stays
  • Guest of honor privileges, grant someone top tier status for their stay when you redeem your points for them
  • Priority early check-in and guaranteed 4pm check-out (doesn’t apply at resorts or casinos)
  • Daily bottle of water
  • Ability to match to MGM M life Rewards Gold status

  1. I have many upcoming travels in 2017 and 2018. Trips with my husband and children. Trips with my best friend. Trips with just my husband. Trips with my parents. Trips with his parents. My husband and I will both be celebrating our 40th birthdays. Best friend too! What a generous and luxurious treat this would be to share with them all, all over the world. None of us travel for work, so this kind of status is not something we would otherwise ever have the chance to experience. Hope to be considered and appreciate the spirit of this contest!

  2. This year (and hopefully, well into the future), my wife and I are planning to take our 6yr old on trips around the world. If we plan properly, we are trying to do at least 1 trip a month. Should we be the lucky recipients of this kind gesture, we will put it to good us by:

    1) Use the United club passes (to replace recently expired ones) on our next United trip from SFO – SYR. However, I am not sure if club passes are included in the gifted status.
    2) Try to be Hyatt exclusive as much as possible.
    3) Avoid the 2 most annoying fees for hotel stays, resort and parking. Some places charge resort fees even when they are clearly not resorts.
    4) Breakfast! enough said.
    5) Early check in and late check outs are extremely useful to accommodate our penchant to find cheap flights.

  3. I travel internationally on regular basis to assist with humanitarian aid strategy and execution. My travels do provide opportunities to stay at Hyatt properties. However, those stays will not be enough to achieve Globalist Status. The gift of Globalist status would be a welcome way to refresh during layovers in European countries after visiting third world sites with difficult living conditions.

  4. This next year (maybe two) my wife and I have decided on traveling throughout the US. We’ve been going on trips outside the country every year (since this new hobby) but we have decided to get to know the US better. We go to NYC and Austin and Seattle a lot (3 kids to visit) and the whole of the West coast as we live in California, but now we’d like to visit most of the rest of the country. We now have the time AND the Southwest Companion Pass, and have decided a few months ago that Hyatt is our kind of hotel chain. We don’t really like Hiltons nor Radissons (except outside the US) nor even SPG (often seem “ponsy”) and Marriott? well we do stay there sometimes.

But Hyatt is just “our level”. Just got back from the Hyatt Regency in Maui.
Their hotels are not fancy but good value, always friendly and welcoming staff.

In December we stayed at the Hyatt House in Austin (Arboretum) and I liked it – simple and cheap too with a kitchenette. I wasn’t sure how long we’d be there (turned out to be 5 nights) so I had booked each night separately, using points between my account and my wife’s.

When we arrived I asked if we could keep our room for as long as we stayed, maybe 4 or 5 nights and that was fine with them. However, on the evening of the second night while I was in downtown Austin I got a call from the front desk and they told me they had noticed I was not booked in for that night but they had called Gold Passport and found I had mistakenly booked the other nights into the Hyatt Place (also at the Arboretum) and had proactively looked for me to confirm I had made a mistake. I said Yes and they took care of cancelling my other bookings (no penalty) and transferring them to the House.

Now that’s what I call service above and beyond! I love Hyatt. We plan on spending many nights in the next year at Hyatts and the upgraded status would be fantastic.

  5. taking the little ones on adventures to stimulate their curiosity is a huge part of our parenting philosophy. Plus, my client are small businesses. This upgrade would end up benefiting more than just me.

  6. I travel work work and present my research at medical conferences. It would be nice to be able to stay in upgraded suites.

  7. I’m a teacher have a month long Europe trip in the works for my summer break. I would stay at as many Hyatts as possible with Globalist. So far I have stops planned in Zurich, Milan, and Mallorca, all of which I hear have beautiful Park Hyatts that are calling my name.

  8. With globalist, I really want to try out some of the luxury Park Hyatt hotels with the “on-the-house” room service breakfast.

  9. I would travel often for business and don’t really use Hyatt but would like a reason to experience them more

  10. I’m going to go to Europe this August and Park Hyatt Paris Vendome is one of my buckett list but since I’m traveling with my wife and 2 children, it’s hard to imagine to go there without being globalist. I do have other chain hotel membership such as SPG and Marriott Platinum but they don’t guarantee suite at the time of booking. Not only Park Hyatt Paris Vendome, there are also gorgeous Hyatt properties in Europe, which I’m definitely checking in if I get Globalist, that my family would love to stay.
Me and my family would be thrilled to have the benefits.
Also I’m going to Japan later this year, too so visiting Park Hyatt Tokyo once again would be very cool.

  11. Would benefit from free breakfast on upcoming travels. I’ve heard great things about lemon poppyseed pancakes in NY

  12. I’m a firefighter so I’m unable to build status and miles accounts through work travel. But through credit cards and traveling whenever I can I’ve been able to book a once in a lifetime trip to Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, and dubai with miles! I’d love to use the Hyatt status to stay at the park Hyatt Sydney as well as hyatts in Dubai and Hong Kong

  13. I’d like to see if Gary and his peers are right when they describe their stays as an top tier elite..

  14. With 3 teen boys and a husband, I live in the house that testosterone built. I’ve seen a lot of super hero movies over the years. That Globalist status would help me feed those bottomless pits at breakfast when we stay with Hyatt. Sometimes the points world is a little harder for us since we have to get two rooms, but the free parking or free resort fee would help out a lot. Later this year I have stays booked at Park Hyatt Chicago and Park Hyatt Beaver Creek that would shine a little brighter as a Globalist. I wonder how many more Hyatt stays I could fit in this year with that?

  15. I am getting married in November and I am using points to cut down a lot of costs involved. I will need to spend about $4,000 in breakfast for all the guests over the span of 2 days, but if I had globalist status, I could get them the breakfast as part of the guest of honor.

    Would really appreciate the help!

  16. Growing up I’ve always dreamed that I could travel the world and stay at many wonderful hotels that belong to Hyatt. It is still just dreams but with the help of your blog, my dreams are getting closer.

    I am the future Globalist!

    Let’s Travel!

  17. Planning an upcoming 40th anniversary trip to Bali for me and my husband. Hyatt status for our stay at the Grand Hyatt would make it extra special.

  18. I would love to experience first ever non paid upgrade to a suite. Planning another Cancun Hyatt Ziva and upgrade to a suite in such resort would be great break having two three year old twin boys in a separate room during breaks or just tougher moments. I hope i can be considered.

  19. I’ve been qualifying for Hyatt Diamond for years based on stays…but that said, I don’t think I would ever qualify for Globalist under World of Hyatt. While I stay at Hyatts often enough, I rarely break 40 nights a year.

If I were picked to win Globalist status, I would try my hardest to see if I can score a suite upgrade for every work and personal trip! Free breakfast and DSUs (or their WoH equivalent) are great, but I would have the most fun seeing if I can talk my way into a suite for ~40 nights this year!

  20. Plan to use Globalist status to pick up ladies. I hear it works just like walking a cute puppy.

  21. My wife and I are taking our first ever trip to Europe (and first international trip together that isn’t Mexico, and we live in Texas, and we’ve been together 12.5 years…) this summer, and we’re staying at the Park Hyatt Vendome! Despite the free travel, money is still fairly tight so the free food would be amazing.

Towards the end of the year, we’re going to a beach with the kids. We haven’t planned it yet, but this would definitely make us choose a Hyatt!

Finally, I do travel for work and I’d move stays whenever possible to Hyatt with this status. Explorist isn’t doing it for me (I have the card), but Globalist sure would change my booking habits!

  22. My new wife and I have learned a tremendous amount from Gary – enough to generate a more than a million points from opening new credit cards and other accounts. I’ve paid for our honeymoon at the Hyatt Regency Maui and for our parents and families to go to amazing trips around the world. But the biggest trip we are going to this year is to visit many of our relatives in Korea who were unable to attend our wedding due to age and their health. We will be traveling next month to Korea in business class on Japan Airlines by using Avios points gained through the British Airways card, referred to us by Gary. We were also able to get free nights at the Park Hyatt Seoul by transferring Chase Ultimate Rewards points, referred to us by Gary on the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card.

In addition to our familial duties in Korea we also decided to make a one in a lifetime experience together to Japan to see the Cherry Blossoms in Tokyo, with free nights in the Park Hyatt Tokyo and Andaz Toranomon Hills – all thanks again to Gary and a referral for the Hyatt Credit Card for both myself and my wife.

We’re both very thankful that we were able to go on a lot of great trips, for which Gary and this website has been extraordinary for us. If we were get Hyatt Globalist status, it would be a fantastic way for us to get even more benefits at places we’re staying at for our trip next month, and beyond.

  23. I’m going to the Park Hyatt Tokyo next month with my girlfriend, including 2 free nights thanks to the Chase Hyatt card, and flying first class there on JAL. This is my first award redemption since starting this hobby last year, so I’m exciting about all my “work” paying off, and impressing her with the fruits of my labor. An upgrade to a suite at such an incredible hotel would make it a truly memorable trip.

I wish I could say I will be proposing to her on this trip, or that I am dying and this is on my bucket list, or that I am on my way to volunteer to help teenage pregnant polar bears, but sadly nothing so inspirational. However, I haven’t booked the rest of my hotel stays for the trip, so you can be sure that I would get great use out of Globalist status!

  24. I would love to win this status. My wife and I are going to be staying at the Park Hyatt in NYC for our first solo trip since our son was born 7 years ago. The status would really make this Birthday get away extra special. Thanks

  25. Would love globalist status this year with Hyatt! Last years diamond status gave me major points with the family! Everyone benefits with free breakfast and club access!

  26. I have a few upcoming reservations including one with my family. Would be awesome!

  27. Upgrades including suites subject to availability, as well as club lounge access
Breakfast in the hotel restaurant when no club lounge is available
Free parking on award stays, and no resort fees on paid stays
Guest of honor privileges, grant someone top tier status for their stay when you redeem your points for them
Priority early check-in and guaranteed 4pm check-out (doesn’t apply at resorts or casinos)
    Daily bottle of water
Ability to match to MGM M life Rewards Gold status

  28. I just accumulated my first points and miles so that my husband and I could go to Hawaii and I am planning on trying to get in at the Andaz, but a Hyatt either way. We don’t go on vacation often and when we do it has always been with a group of people because that’s how we can afford it. We never even had a honeymoon. Having elite status would be so great, to be able to see what it is like having all those perks for probably the only time that we would be able to have it.

  29. This a hard hobby to sustain for two people if you aren’t big spenders. After two award trips, the card churning is running into a bit of a wall. Having the highest status at such an awesome chain like Hyatt (which is my award chain of.choice) will make splurging on a room or coming out of pocket for hotels if we can manage another flight award that much sweeter.

  30. I am sure my story is no different than hundreds of other readers. But I have a bunch of Hyatt points that are expiring this year and would hate to not be able to redeem them at some best Hyatt properties worldwide. Unfortunately I no longer carry a Hyatt credit card so no status whatsoever. It’ll be really nice if my family can enjoy their breakfast at some Hyatt resorts since they are usually fantastic and expensive unless provided complementary as part of Globalist benefits. So here you go, as simply as that. The value proposition in my case will be quite high and I have already planned two trips in the next few months with Hyatt. Can’t wait to get some kind of status, so thank you so much for the opportunity!

  31. I have embarked on a path to visit all the major park hyatt, grand hyatt, and andaz within 3 years. So far I have stayed at 13 different hyatt properties. Cant wait to try them all!

  32. Hello, I was a Diamond member and I just took my mother to the Andaz papagayo and she loved our upgraded room and our free diamond breakfast. She even decided to go back and her and my dad are going to have their 50th wedding anniversary trip there next summer. My mom and I have a another trip planned to Europe this June and we will be staying at the Park Hyatt Vienna. She was so excited that we were staying at another Hyatt. She was very sad when I told her I was going to no longer be a diamond this summer, so we wouldn’t be getting a free breakfast or an upgraded room. I would love to be able to surprise her with free breakfast and maybe a suite upgrade during our upcoming June vacation. I have heard great things about the free diamond breakfast at the Park Hyatt Vienna and I would love to have Globalist status to treat my mother once more time . She is starting to get spoiled on the trips I am taking her on.

  33. Suite Upgrades when I’m visiting such properties as the Park Hyatt Abu Dhabi, Tokyo, or Sydney, when I’m at the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong, or maybe at my next vacation at the Andaz Papagayo! Surprise my significant other…win-win!

  34. I have just redeemed one pair of star alliance around the world ticket and was about to book some hyatt properties. The status could really scale up my level of experience and perhaps I could start to contribute by writing a couple of reviews for those not so popular(but very good) hyatt properties.
And I am looking forward to a few confirmed business trip from Q2. Since my company has company rate with Hyatt, with the given status, for sure I will book all my stays with hyatt.
    Good luck for me!

  35. My wife and I just married recently and we’ve been putting off our honeymoon. This would be a great chance to take maximize our stay at the PH Sydney!

  36. Family is trying to go to Asia next year and the suite upgrades and free breakfast would be extremely helpful and motivate the trip even more. It would be great to enjoy the benefits at the andaz or park Hyatt Tokyo, the grand Hyatt hong long as well as all other travel throughout the year.

  37. I will be travelling to Europe this summer and would love Top tier status with Hyatt and make my stays more confortable.

  38. Would love Globalist status this year with Hyatt! Last year’s Diamond status made travel so much easier and fuller with the family! We benefited from free breakfast / club access and DSU’s. Would be thrilled to have it for 2017 and stay at Hyatt during our travels this year.

  39. I would love to have Hyatt’s new Globalist status! I was a Hyatt Gold Passport Diamond member until the end of February (didn’t requalify). I forgot to use my suite upgrades and they ended up expiring, so having Globalist status would allow me to get some great upgrades on a trip I’m planning to Asia later in the summer (especially at the Park Hyatt Shanghai!).

  40. Won’t be traveling enough to qualify for Globalist under new requirements, but having that status would make business trips more enjoyable, and would definitely be great for me and my best friend as we want to get through our bucket list over the next year and half (with Hyatt surprisingly having properties in many of them).

  41. Hello Gary,

There isnt a day that goes by when I dont look at your posts and visit your webpage. I used to be a frequent traveller and used to have top status with SPG, Hyatt and Hilton, until I got diagnosed with cancer last January and I had a newborn at the same time. Life had changed for me and I gave up my passion for travel and went into chemo treatments for over 7 months and right now I am in remission. I started to travel a little and stay at hotels here and there over the past couple of months but I really miss my elite status and perks. I have a big Hawaii trip that I am planning to take with my wife and my 1 year old that I had been wanting to ever since I was done with my treatments. Top status with Hyatt would mean I can plan a stay at the Hyatt Andaz in Maui and I do want to visit the Hyatt Maldives sometime this year as well when we go see my family in India as, I didnt get a chance to meet them and they are very eager to meet me ever since they got to know about my cancer. Top status with Hyatt would mean a lot to me and my family on this trip as I would try to stay as much as possible in hyatt during all these trips and enjoy the really great benefits it comes with and awesome upgrades, free breakfast especially in Maldives where staying in water villa has always been my dream.

  42. I’m a graduate student who’s probably going to propose in more ways than one in the coming months. That means there will be some celebratory trips to plan (more so for the personal proposal than the academic one) and not a ton of money to fund them. Benefits like free breakfast on points stays at otherwise expensive properties would make a world of difference to me (and a special someone if she says yes), and give me the ability to make upcoming special occasions even more special and memorable. I’d be eternally grateful to you and your judge for the meaningful difference it would make in our lives, and it might even get you invited to a wedding…unless you think that would count as bribery, in which case we’ll just send you a thank you note on a Park Hyatt postcard.

Good luck, and thanks for doing this!

  43. Upgrades at great hotels and club access would be awesome. Thanks for making this available.

  44. I never was Hyatt Diamond only Platinum and would love to enjoy for one year the Hyatt Globalist status.
I travel mostly of the time for pleasure and holiday around the world with my partner and we both love to stay in good hotels. What we love more is to enjoy hotels.
Sometimes we only go back to a city to trie out and see a new hotel with Elite Status to see discover how good is the suite or how nice is the Club Lounge.
We both really enjoy to stay in Club lounges sometimes even hours to have some rest and enjoy the service or chat with the staffs.

I made over the last couple of years many friends from normal housekeeping staffs till managers this fascinate me always about to travel. Is not the hotel what make a stay memorable is the people who work in there and try to serve and make you happy every single minute.

If I would get the Hyatt Globalist status I would stay probably more with Hyatt this year then Marriott, Hilton or IHG.

Hyatt was always a good hotel accommodation and I would be more then happy to try out the new Top tier status for one year.
