World of Hyatt loyalty program changes start today.
Hyatt’s Top Elite Status Has Become Tougher to Get But More Valuable to Have
It’s harder to reach top tier elite status — no more qualifying on stays, no more credit towards top status via credit card spend, and 60 nights instead of 50 to qualify — for those who reach “Globalist” status it’s the most generous top tier in the industry among major programs.
And it’s even better on net than Hyatt’s Diamond status was before. While there are some tradeoffs (like breakfast for 2 adults and 2 children instead of 4 adults, and no more check-in amenity), there are real improvements:
- My Hyatt Concierge – a dedicated agent to take care of all things related to Hyatt, similar to Starwood’s Ambassador (SPG requires 100 nights for this perk).
- Upgrades at check-in now include standard suites.
- Confirmed suite upgrades now valid on award nights, and you can earn more than 4 in a year — an additional suite upgrade or 10,000 points at 70, 80, 90, and 100 nights in a year.
- A free night at any participating Hyatt property upon reaching 60 nights, waived resort fees, and free parking on award stays.

I’m Giving Away Top Tier Hyatt Status to a Reader
Hyatt offered me a Globalist status to give away. I’m not going to do the usual ‘answer a question in the comments and I’ll pick at random’ method. Instead what I’d love is for you to share why or how you’ll benefit from Hyatt Globalist status, and we’ll pick one winner based on the comments.
I’ve got someone who is going to choose for me. I’d love for the Globalist status to go to someone who will get good use out of it and find it meaningful. Entries close Tuesday, March 7 at Noon eastern. All decisions are final and unappealable, you agree that I’ll have no liability for offering this contest. I’m just trying to help a reader here, so please don’t give me a hard time!

What Gifted Globalist Will Get You — and What It Won’t
Gifted status doesn’t come with the perks that are earned based on night (or spend) thresholds. So it won’t come with the free night for reaching 60 nights, 4 confirmed suite upgrades, My Hyatt Concierge or reduced qualification requirements for the coming year (the need to stay 55 rather than 60 nights to keep status).
But you will receive:
- Upgrades including suites subject to availability, as well as club lounge access
- Breakfast in the hotel restaurant when no club lounge is available
- Free parking on award stays, and no resort fees on paid stays
- Guest of honor privileges, grant someone top tier status for their stay when you redeem your points for them
- Priority early check-in and guaranteed 4pm check-out (doesn’t apply at resorts or casinos)
- Daily bottle of water
- Ability to match to MGM M life Rewards Gold status

All in all not bad.

Why or how would you benefit from Hyatt Globalist status if you’re picked?
I would finally switch my loyalty to Hyatt and break up with hilton – something I’ve been trying to do for years.
It’ll convince me to stay at Hyatts more
My long term plan when I finally retire is to keep top elite status with Hyatt. Hyatt has some of my favorite properties in the world and I would love to have a taste of what the top level offers NOW.
We could sure use it at the Park Hyatt in Sydney this month!
Thanks, Gary!
I had Diamond status for a while (I initially got it through a status challenge that I learned about from this blog) and loved it… then my work changed and paid travel fell off a cliff for a while.
I’ve accumulated many points over the past few years, but I’m really missing my top tier Hyatt status as I plan my honeymoon for late this year/early next year. We’re planning to head to Australia & possibly see a bit of Asia, and I’d love to be able to take advantage of the breakfast and upgrades… seems like everywhere we’ve looked at going on the trip, there’s a gorgeous Hyatt property. I’d love to add that little extra splash to the honeymoon, and this would help tremendously.
I am going on my honeymoon soon so those upgrades could come in handy!
In December 1987, I was a very poor grad student living in the dorms at University in Hong Kong. I went back to Tokyo for the weekend to get married and bring my new bride to join me to live in one of the world’s smallest apartments. In December, we are celebrating by retracing the route. Experiencing the grandeur of the Grand Hyatt Tokyo followed by a harbour view suite at the Grand Hyatt HK for New Year’s would be a perfect way to reminisce and celebrate the start of the next 30 years.
I would love to try it for a year to compare it to Hilton Diamond and IHG Platinum and determine which program to concentrate on for the future
My parents worked their fingers to the bone on the 100-acre organic apple orchard I grew up on. This year they finally sold, for slightly less than market value, to a former classmate of mine only because he had a passion for orcharding.
They got a middiling sum of money for their troubles and have decided to take our (small) immediate family on a vacation this year. All expenses paid. I’d love to surprise them with the upgrades that come along with Globalist. But only if I can convey my winning to them. They deserve it!
Dear Sir,
As a long time aspirational reader, it would really mean alot to win hyatt status.
As a student studying abroad, i am not your typical luxury traveller, but having status would go a long way in helping my parents to visit me more often, the free lounge (dinner at happy hour) and breakfast would go a long long way at defraying cost for them. These benefits would also help me greatly in summer traveling asia while staying at lower tier hyatt properties while doing community outreach projects and defray lodging costs throughout the year when i travel for job interviews.
Rest assured, the status will not be wasted if presented to me, as thanks to your blog and the wonderful world of flyer talk, i learnt how to maximize the value of status. In my 3years studying abroad i managed to fly 6 return trips to Singapore for under 2500 total and even managed to get oneworld sapphire statues (qatar airways gold, im aiming for emerald this year, email me if you want more details of my plan to get emerald if you are interested)
Sincerely
Andrew Goh
So I could enjoy the Nutella-filled brioche french toast at the Andaz Tokyo!
Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
Vacations are fun,
but more fun with status,
also this doesn’t rhyme I guess.
Having recently retired and with no more business travel, I will never be able to achieve Globalist status. I was a Diamond level Gold Passport member, but am now am an Explorist, which is not that bad, but of course, not the same as being at the Globalist level. I plan to travel in my retirement and would be able to enjoy the benefits of being a Globalist while it lasted if I am lucky enough to win that status in this contest. Fingers crossed.
My wife and I are fellow travel geeks and are about to take on a travel journey before catching a break to have our first child. Having Globalist staus would really make this trip extra special (since we probably won’t be traveling for a while). So we really hope you’ll consider us 🙂
Traveling with a toddler and a 5 year old this summer to Europe for 3 weeks. Having the extra space in a suite makes a HUGE difference. Kiddos can nap in one room while mama enjoys a glass of wine in the living room. In a World of Hyatt, a confirmed suite will make our trip more enjoyable and relaxing. Please pick me! Thanks Gary & Hyatt for this treat.
Thank you for the for the opportunity. Was a Diamond in 2016 and absolutely loved the perks it brought which included suite upgrade and of course breakfast for 2. Unfortunately, I was not able to qualify for Diamond (now Globalist) in 2017 due to a few life events. Would absolutely love to have Globalist for 2017. Already have a few reservations booked but the two I’m most excited about is Hyatt Park Bangkok and Park St. Kitts.
If possible i would love to gift the status to my brother instead, i’m an explorist and it’s sufficient for me. He just lost his wife from cancer and decided to take unpaid leave for 4 months to spend time and travel with his two young children, the status would definitely a big way to ensure they would enjoy their travel better. Thank you Gary.
It’d be great to have status for my stay at the Park Hyatt in Washington DC for the Cherry Blossom run.
If you give it to me, I probably won’t use it at all. But I’ll be really grateful nonetheless.
My friends and I are traveling for a month around Europe and will be staying in 3 different Hyatts during our trip. We’re doing this trip after we graduate as a last hoorah before the real world sets in, and it would be great if we could save some cash on breakfasts and get some luxury conveniences out of it! Thanks for the competition and the blog!
I travel a lot with my family, and we have enjoyed staying at various Hyatt’s over the last few years – Kyoto, Muscat, Uruguay, Seattle, NY, Zurich etc. But it would be certainly nice to go back and check them out with all these cool Globalist benefits.
We’re planning on staying at the Park Hyatt Paris and Park Hyatt Mallorca for our honeymoon later this year (all on points, based on tips from blogs like yours!), and it’d be lovely to have that status to make our honeymoon extra special.
Used to be a hyatt diamond member. Had a baby last year so did not travel much. But this year, trying to make up for lost time. Just got back from Hyatt ziva cancun and i wish i had top-tier membership, I probably would have been upgraded to a better room at check in…
So far, for this year, we have plans on going to kyoto, shanghai, singapore, manila, hong kong; then brussels, paris, spain, ireland, sydney. Mostly, if not all, are booked or will be booked at hyatt properties. Still contemplating where to go for December holidays… but would be extremely grateful if i win
Would b rad 4 my stay in Kauai!
Let’s face it, I’ll never achieve any top-tier hotel status on my own because I simply don’t travel enough (at least the 25+ nights most programs require), and the most travel my company sends me on is maybe a few blocks away to attend the odd training seminar. I do try to travel at least once or twice every couple months and I would love to experience elite status while I stay and try to whore the sh*t out of if for the next 12 months or so. I want in on these club lounges!!
I’m not entering this contest because I wouldn’t be able to use the awarded status. But I just wanted to say that Gary is amazing for doing this on his blog.
I have this 3 legged dog named lucky that always wanted to stay in hyatts around the world before he goes to the farm in the sky…please help make his wish come true.
i can get many benefits
1) my award stays get counted
2)free lounge access and breakfast
3)may be a suite upgrade plus many more small perks like free water etc.
Gary – if I was charmed enough to get globalists status with Hyatt, it would change me from saying at Starwood properties and trying to see 60 nights to be able to get a little taste of these incredible elite benefits, which Hyatt offers. My wife and I have trips planned for 2017 in early 2018 to Sydney, Vienna, Chicago, & New York. I think everyone can put two into together and imagine where I’m going to say… Park Hyatt’s! Ithink contest like this are great, I can’t wait to see who the winner is!
We live a few hours from San Francisco, and it is the nearest place our HMO has a center for ASD. Our toddler is undergoing evaluations and we have a bunch of early morning appointments in the city so we have to stay nearby or leave the house at 4am to get him to the appointments on time.
I am looking at hotels in the city we can stay on points, but Hyatt is the only one that offers free parking On award stays, or period for that matter. Parking at these hotels is routinely 60+ dollars per night! The free breakfast wouldn’t hurt either.
We had diamond status last year as we did a challenge and 12 nights in cheap c+p in a category 1. With the night qualifications now gone, there is no chance we will see diamond again anytime soon.
I always enjoy your posts and I couldn’t help but laugh when my wife forwarded me one recently. Apparently they are making it into her suggested stories on her news app even though she doesn’t visit boarding area.
I am planing trip to Macau, Bali and Taiwan march 2018. Currently plan to stay holiday inn at Macau using annual reward night from Chase CC and point, Conrad Bali with point and cash. Using airbnb at Taiwan. I will switch all to Hyatt if I can confirm upgrade from pt+ cash rate.
i have the status one below right now. i do not think i will stay more than a night or two with this status
the major benefit is it allows me, in practice, in asia, based on last
years diamond, to bring my whole family , which means five children.
second benevit is health, as it cuts a spa day pass in half, which means an incredible pool and gym that i would actually use. competitors pools look and are beautiful, but they are at one hundred degrees six months of the year, good for a soak and not for exercise.
thank you for considering me
We have booked a paid stay at the Park Hyatt Paris Vendome to celebrate our 5 year wedding anniversary in the spring. We are bringing our 1 year old son as well as my in-laws to experience Paris with us. The room upgrade and complimentary breakfast that comes with Globalist status would definitely enhance the experience!
Before we go to Paris, we have also booked a long weekend at the Grand Hyatt Washington to bring our son to all the great Smithsonian museums there as well as to see the cherry blossoms. Extra space in a hotel room with our little one will be a blessing as he’s just learned how to walk and needs room to explore!
Hi
I have a stay coming up in Maldives and this would definitely be worth it using my points to get the maximum value out of it like free breakfast and an upgrade if possible
Thank you 🙂
Didn’t qualify to keep my Diamond status so ended up with Explorist. Would love to win this.
I recently just got into a new relationship with my boyfriend from Mexico. He is not a person with a lot of money, but he has a big heart and works so hard. Over the next year, I plan on taking him to many places, including some of the Hyatt all-inclusives. Having Globalist status would make many of our adventures unique, and the suite upgrades would make for some very amazing first time experiences for someone that I really care about. I appreciate your consideration.
Hoping to use it for a family trip to London. Neither of the Hyatts are suitable for families without the suite upgrades that come with the Globalist status
I like Hyatt a lot but it’s obviously more expensive so I usually use Chase Ultimate Rewards points for stays when we do splurge on Hyatt over their competitors. The problem is that reward stays don’t count toward status. Also, I’ve attempted for a couple years running to buy Hyatt points during Daily Getaways with zero luck. It would be wonderful to experience to enjoy Globalist status for a year especially since I really do like the hotel and try to stay there as often as i can. Thanks for listening.
If I win the status, I will pay for my parents trip using points and utilize the “guest of honor” feature. I once used it at Grand Hyatt Shanghai for my parents’ stay. However, at the time, the Hyatt system did not deliver the “GUEST OF HONOR” info, so sadly they did not get the relevant benefits. I hope they can enjoy the benefits when they visit other cities in China, where features some new Hyatt properties with gorgeous views and outstanding services.
When we visit family in Seattle, the breakfast at the Olive 8 is one of the best perks of any status!
I would enjoy the globalist status with my family 🙂 the free breakfast would go a long way in reducing our costs this year A VERY long way 😀 the suite upgrades would NOT hurt either space wise 🙂 thanks gor the opportunity
Going to a summer vacation this year to Tokyo with my 5yo girl, she loves the hotel’s breakfast so much that was the only thing she remembered from her last trip (3yo in Osaka) @.@
So, yes. Breakfast (provided by the Globalist status) will make her day.
2013: big trip to Abu Dhabi, Sri Lanka, Malaysia and Bali. Had to cancel due to some issues with the kiddies. (OK, full disclosure: we were coming off 2 weeks in the States — we live in Germany — followed by a two week visit from our parents to see the grandchildren. The kids were 3 and 5 at the time. It would have just been too much at the same time.) Anyway, three of our stops were to be the Park Hyatt AUH, the Grand Hyatt Bali and the Grand Hyatt KL. I had suite certificates from the older version of the Chase Hyatt card, plus some free nights and points, etc. Well, we had to cancel but now we are trying to rebuild the trip. Would love to still give those properties a try with a chance to get some better rooms, free breakfast and so forth. Sorry for the long-winded answer.
Would love to treat my parents to suites when I take them for travels in their retirement!
I have four holidays booked for the next year, so would love to be able to upgrade to suites all over the world!
I started traveling a lot in the past year and I would love to drag my dad (who grew up in the Philippines, but lives here now and has not been anywhere other than back there to visit family) with me around the world. The potential suite upgrades would be incredible because they’d allow me to sleep in the living room, as his snoring can shake buildings.
Gary, appreciate the opportunity! I’m a self employed lone world traveller and would truly value the elite status to enhance my stays. As a solo traveller the added benefits would mean a lot.
Cheers!
James
Are you kidding me?! I had Hyatt Diamond in 2014 from what I learned from your blog for the Hyatt Diamond challenge back then. I then got the Chase Hyatt credit card for both my wife and myself to secure two nights each and we used them at the Park Hyatt Paris Vendome for what turned out to be a once in a lifetime trip to France. We were not able to get a suite upgrade in Paris but had the fantastic breakfast there with the Diamond status comp. And we did score the suite upgrade at the Hyatt Regency Nice for the second part of that trip. This was our first serious venture into the world of points and miles that I learned from your heplful and interesting blogs. Been following it ever since. Unfortunately, I don’t travel enough to keep or earn again Hyatt Diamond or now Globalist status. But I would love to have Globalist to use for Park Hyatt Tokyo, my next dream trip!
I love Hyatt. I have stayed at a few Hyatt hotels at the end of last year and would love to repeat that!
You can check my blog for some reviews…
Thank you!
It would be great if you would give the status to me. thank you!
