World of Hyatt loyalty program changes start today.
Hyatt’s Top Elite Status Has Become Tougher to Get But More Valuable to Have
It’s harder to reach top tier elite status — no more qualifying on stays, no more credit towards top status via credit card spend, and 60 nights instead of 50 to qualify — for those who reach “Globalist” status it’s the most generous top tier in the industry among major programs.
And it’s even better on net than Hyatt’s Diamond status was before. While there are some tradeoffs (like breakfast for 2 adults and 2 children instead of 4 adults, and no more check-in amenity), there are real improvements:
- My Hyatt Concierge – a dedicated agent to take care of all things related to Hyatt, similar to Starwood’s Ambassador (SPG requires 100 nights for this perk).
- Upgrades at check-in now include standard suites.
- Confirmed suite upgrades now valid on award nights, and you can earn more than 4 in a year — an additional suite upgrade or 10,000 points at 70, 80, 90, and 100 nights in a year.
- A free night at any participating Hyatt property upon reaching 60 nights, waived resort fees, and free parking on award stays.

I’m Giving Away Top Tier Hyatt Status to a Reader
Hyatt offered me a Globalist status to give away. I’m not going to do the usual ‘answer a question in the comments and I’ll pick at random’ method. Instead what I’d love is for you to share why or how you’ll benefit from Hyatt Globalist status, and we’ll pick one winner based on the comments.
I’ve got someone who is going to choose for me. I’d love for the Globalist status to go to someone who will get good use out of it and find it meaningful. Entries close Tuesday, March 7 at Noon eastern. All decisions are final and unappealable, you agree that I’ll have no liability for offering this contest. I’m just trying to help a reader here, so please don’t give me a hard time!

What Gifted Globalist Will Get You — and What It Won’t
Gifted status doesn’t come with the perks that are earned based on night (or spend) thresholds. So it won’t come with the free night for reaching 60 nights, 4 confirmed suite upgrades, My Hyatt Concierge or reduced qualification requirements for the coming year (the need to stay 55 rather than 60 nights to keep status).
But you will receive:
- Upgrades including suites subject to availability, as well as club lounge access
- Breakfast in the hotel restaurant when no club lounge is available
- Free parking on award stays, and no resort fees on paid stays
- Guest of honor privileges, grant someone top tier status for their stay when you redeem your points for them
- Priority early check-in and guaranteed 4pm check-out (doesn’t apply at resorts or casinos)
- Daily bottle of water
- Ability to match to MGM M life Rewards Gold status

All in all not bad.

Why or how would you benefit from Hyatt Globalist status if you’re picked?
Okay, while I would not get the absolute best/most use out of the Globalist status if I won it, I would appreciate it more than most would. I do not get to travel nearly as much as I’d like to as my work does not involve travel.
That said, this year is my 20th wedding anniversary and I’m going to travel a few times with my wife. I was matched to Diamond a while back and was able to use it a couple times and the treatment we received was truly memorable, very nice room upgrades, club lounge and all. My wife was quite impressed as we’re just not used to that. She was surprised to say the least and still talks about it as her favorite trip we’ve done. (Sadly in 20 years we’ve only done two real vacations so the list is not long and it’s easy to get to the top)
Why do I want the Globalist status? To impress my wife and show her a good time at nice hotels. Seems silly to some, but I’m not wealthy and will never, ever attain this status on my own. I have points for several free nights so no cost to me there. Status would be icing on the top.
Turning in my two weeks notice next week, new job being accepted. More time off as a big perk along with more money, so hopefully more travel in our future!
Having Globalist status would allow me to treat my parents to the kind of high end hotel experience they don’t even know exists. They are aretired, blue collar couple from the heart of the Midwest that haven’t had the opportunity to travel and see the world, much less experience any kind of luxury. Raising six kids, they never had a chance to even dream about those things. Nothing would give me more satisfaction than to be able to give back!
It wouldn’t be life changing but it sure would make my travels much more fun. I think that why we call it the miles and points game. This is supposed to be fun!
Checking in to a really nice room after being delayed and forced to sit in a middle seat in the back sure has a way of easing the pain.
I am planning for a vacation in Hawaii for my family. Having Globalist status will give us either lounge access or breakfast which is usually very expensive in hotels in Hawaii.
Just lost Diamond, so this would be most welcome
Off to India with their plethora of Hyatts, including Park Hyatt Chennai.
I will be in Vienna this summer. This would certainly make me choose the Park Hyatt Vienna as my place to stay during this visit. I also am at the Hyatt Regency MCO frequently. My life would get much better.
My wife and I are recently retired and are planning a Big Retirement Celebration Vacation Trip to Hawaii for later this year. Neither of us have ever been to Hawaii before. We both got the Hyatt Visa Cards, met the required spends, and received our two free nights each at any Hyatt in the world.
We plan to use the four free nights at the Grand Hyatt Kauai, which I’m told is many people’s favorite Hyatt or even favorite hotel period. Globalist Status would take our experience to an even higher level. It would be a level of luxury we are not accustomed to and would never be able to afford or attain through the ordinary method of many paid stays. A room upgrade and club lounge access which comes with Globalist Status especially would be fantastic!
It would give me another year of diamond status because I won’t requalify this year due to the higher requirements. I’m a 40-45 night guy who’s wife is already thinking leaving me because I won’t requalify. Ha. She loves Hyatt that much. So please save my marriage!
I would get the best use of your Globalist giveaway, here are a few reasons why.. I live in Switzerland and would love to frequent the Park Hyatt Zurich more often but with no benefits is just not worth it, being a Globalist would give me the great Swiss breakfast buffet and would defiantly get treated much better then with no status.
Also I have been lucky enough to have been the guest of honor many time through family, but can’t always be using there points while i traveling the world with my girlfriend.
And here’s the big reason why to pick me, I plan to ask my girlfriend to marry me soon and would love to do this at an aspirational Hyatt property. And being a Globalist would make this much easier since most properties are more supportive with such special occasions.
And then comes the honeymoon, so many more ways to use this throughout the world, as a true Globalist.
And pls don’t tell my girlfriend. Thank you
I will lose all status this year due to less travel so this would help fill the gap until next year.
Doesn’t look like too easy a choice given all the retirements, new babies, and honeymoons going on!
My fiance’ and I will also be taking the leap next month and then heading out on our honeymoon to Paris, London, and Lisbon. Later in the fall we will be off to the Philippines to meet my (newly acquired) extended family! We are both avid travelers and fortunate enough to be able to do so, but we don’t do so enough that we are ever likely to earn top tier status the hard way. We aren’t in dire need of Globalist by any means, but it would make for one exceptional enhancement to what will already be a great year of traveling! I’ve been meaning to try that room-service breakfast that Gary boasted about at the Park Hyatt Vendome…
Don’t be just be a traveler, be a Hyatt traveler. There was that pool in Park Hyatt Dubai that makes you forget that you are traveling — that you are on holiday! There were the in-room breakfast that makes you feel at home. Or even in places of less fancy, the warm breakfast welcomes you. Make staying at a Hyatt an experience in of itself!
I’m going to Sydney with my wife and hopefully going to take the family to Hawaii and the club access would be a great benefit for those trips.
My folks have done little to no traveling and now that they’re both retired, I’d like to take (and accompany) them on a tour of their bucket list destinations. Fortunately, I have ample airline miles and would love to enhance their once-in-lifetime experiences with the benefits of your generous giveaway!
I travel fairly frequently as a mileage runner and a worldschooler. Because of worldschooling I am often staying in hotels with my 3 children. In the past, we have had some lovely stays (Hyatt Bonita Springs, Grand Hyatt Singapore) in some wonderful suites and the extra space was much appreciated. As my older kids will be heading off to college soon, these are some of our last years together and I would love the opportunity to continue staying in some of the wonderful Hyatt properties that we have yet to experience (Hyatt Papagayo, Park Hyatt Sydney and Park Hyatt Vendome are just some of the possibilities we have read so much about).
More enjoyable trips with friends and family.
Taking my wife on a belated honeymoon to the Park Hyatt Maldives in April. I know she would appreciate the (likely) upgrade to the plunge pool for the nights that I wasn’t upgrading to overwater (was going to upgrade for two of our nights) , and I wouldn’t mind free breakfast 🙂
I’m also taking my family (parents + sisters and their partners) to Russia this summer. I was planning on burning points and having us all stay at the Park Hyatt when in Moscow. It would be pretty fantastic if we would all be treated as top tier elites. I’m only lower-middle tier.
And if I ended up with globalist status, I’d plan a vacation to Argentina at the end of this year. Was aiming for such a trip to be in 2018, but would definitely move that up and stay at the Park Hyatt in BA, as it’s a hotel I’d been wanting to visit for awhile.
I have planned an around the world trip to celebrate my finishing my master’s program, booked almost entirely with points and miles. We will be staying at the Park Hyatt Vienna, Park Hyatt Tokyo and Hyatt Regency Kyoto among others. Having Globalist status sure would make for one heck of a trip upgrade!
I am going to go to California with my family this summer. This means many hotel nights, so the perks coming with the Hyatt status would be more than welcome.
I am a normal member and stayed twice at Hyatt and I didn’t explore Globalist benefits before and I have saw the benefits now only. I would like to use this benefit for my upcoming travel if I receive Globalist Tier.
I will be going to France and Italy this year. Free breakfast in Park Hyatt Milan and Park Hyatt Paris will be very helpful.
Sadly, my wife and I never had kids. We were pregnant but had a miscarriage. We are now beyond childbearing years, so we consider ourselves free-agent parents. We look for kids – usually teenagers who haven’t gotten to travel – and take them with us for a trip they’ll always remember. For Christmas this past year we took a young lady, from a family with 13 kids, to NY. We promise that this gift – if we were to receive it – would be used for many more trips like this. Virtually none of the ones we’ve taken so far have stayed in a high-end hotel. And we try to make each trip extra special. Globalist would afford us the ability to really go all out and give them an experience they’ll never forget.
A suite and free breakfast is the best when traveling with a family of four. Makes a big diff in the overall enjoyment of a trip. Headed to NYC for Memorial Day weekend, this would be an awesome addition with the kids!
I would love to share all the benefits of Diamond/Globalist status with my husband and two children at the Park Hyatt Maldives. This hotel looks absolutely incredible…. and the possibility of an upgrade plus free breakfast would be over the top. I’mprobably just dreaming….
Save on breakfast stays at your favorite resort. Park Hyatt Maldives.
I would really like the breakfast benefit and lounge benefit for my family. When we travel, it is a huge blessing to be able to have breakfast at the hotel before going out to explore with the kids. It is also nice being able to get water/drinks from the lounge throughout the day!
I would give this to my wife who is retiring this year and have her pick where to use the Hyatt benefits! Hopefully Europe and Asia!!
I love lounges, so access would be great!
Globalist status would be wonderful. I’m trying to convince my wife to go to Paris this summer (I know, weird, huh having to “convince” her to go to Paris). It’s our 6th wedding anniversary and she is reluctant to leave our three kids. Globalist status perks like the amazing breakfast at the Park Hyatt Paris might be the push that is needed. Also, our whole family could use the status for free breakfast and free parking for quick over night trips to the Park Hyatt Chicago.
My wife and I love Hyatts so much we try to always stay there when we can. We did a phenomenal trip for our honeymoon that included stays at the PH Dubai, PH Maldives, PH Siem Read and GH Hong Kong (on points!). I am secretly trying to plan a 2nd honeymoon and having Globalist would make it extra special would be a dream!
Traveling over a 125 nights per year, having this status would allow to pick Hyatts over other properties (where I go, there are many usually.). The biggest benefit would be the breakfast and upgrade benefits, which eould allow me more comfort and ability to work easier while on the road. Additionally, the late checkout would come in handy on about 80% of my stays!
I have learned to travel for free and see the world because of your site. I thank you for that. A top tier status would just be icing on the cake for the valuable information you provide to your readers. I would love the benefits just like anyone else would. Making traveling a little more fun and cushy.
Thanks for all the hard work over the years!
My family would love to have Globalist status for a trip we are taking to the Hyatt Regency Maui early next year! My husband Ryan and I area taking our children, Eric (who will be 5) and Spencer (who will be 2). We are also taking my parents and in-laws. This will be a once in a lifetime trip for all of us, but especially my in-laws, who have never been to Hawaii or taken a vacation with my kids and don’t do much traveling. Obviously, this trip is going to get expensive quickly and it would be amazing for everyone to have access to the club lounge for breakfast, snacks and drinks. I know it usually also comes with staying on a high floor, which would also be appreciated by everyone. I would also use it (along with a big smile) to try to get an upgraded room for our family, since sleeping in the immediate vicinity of a two year old who goes to bed by 8 and repeatedly yells “ball!” and “Pop Pop!” when he wakes up in the middle of the night is pretty rough. We would also enjoy the free parking, since we will probably be renting two cars. All in all, it would really make once in a lifetime vacation for our extended family extra special.
This would be a perfect gift for our wedding anniversary coming up this summer.
I have been dreaming of Hyatt elite membership. I’ve never been one and my wife is so looking forward to this!!!!
Hey Gary,
I’m planning an arould the world trip with my girl-friend at then end of the year after we have finished our studies. As Globalist, the choice of hotels would be obvious and make this trip even more promising!
I travel alot for work but not always enough to get a status level to take advantage of the perks. More often than not I’m required to stay at properties that don’t even have rooms that i could be upgraded to because of cost. I would love to stay at a higher end property and book the cheapest room knowing that i could get upgraded to a suite and really enjoy my stays.
Hi there, I happen to be taking my mother on two trips for 2018: to Australia and Vienna/Paris. Having Globalist status would mean upgrades and free breakfasts–and likely even better service and responsiveness–for us at the Park Hyatts in Sydney, Vienna, and Paris. That could truly make the trip more special and less expensive for us, indeed! (Those stays are using Hyatt Visa credit card free nights as well as points for award stays.)
I also happen to travel for work and leisure around work, with plans for stays at the Park Hyatts Aviara (an hour or so from our house) in March, Washington, DC over Easter, and New York in June (award point stays). I also have work stays at several Andaz and Grand Hyatt/Hyatt properties. With so many Hyatt stays, the elite status really would go a long way in saving me money on breakfasts and the chance for more comfortable upgrades when my husband joins me.
I’ve never had a year with as many Hyatt stats due to the locations where I’ll be traveling; I’m usually quite the SPG loyalist, though I’d been Hyatt Diamond many years ago when my travel overlapped more Hyatt destinations. This year, more than any in recent memory, will be the first where I make such a big return to Hyatt’s best properties.
Having the new Globalist status would both be if enormlus benefit to me, my mother, and my husband, but would also give me the chance to truly evaluate the pros and cons of Hyatt Globalist status versus my 3+ years with SPG Platinum Ambassador level status (and now Marriott Platinum status). As someone who reviews and comments quite frequently on FlyerTalk about such topics, I would be in an excellent position to post my throughts and experinces that could help so many others, as well.
Thanks for the opportunity!
I’m retired and would enjoy top-tier benefits when I travel and stay at Hyatt. I’ve never had the experience without my son present. Thanks for the contest.
Hello Gary! Thanks for th eopportunity for one of us to win! I would definitely use the benefits ( breakfast!) when travelling with my family to help stretch our vacation dollars. It would make a big difference for us! We have a few Hyatt stays coming up this year and this status would add to the quality of our time together. Thanks a bunch!
I haven’t been able to travel as much in recent years as I would have liked, due to my father’s passing two years ago and my mom needing steady care for her Alzheimer’s that had progressed to the point of needing ’round the clock care. She passed peacefully on President’s Day, and on March 2nd I had my milestone 60th birthday. All of this lined up as sort of a perfect storm for me to finally do some global traveling to make up for lost time, celebrate life, and reflect on the past few years as well as the years to come. It would make that travel a lot more special across the board, and I’d be eternally grateful to you and Hyatt for the privilege. Thanks for the opportunity!
I’ve been dealing with illness for 8 years, and would absolutely love to be able to get away for a weekend here and there to chill out in style and de-stress from the rigors of trying to juggle a job while dealing with chronic illness.
This is super generous of you, and I think it’s awesome that you’re doing this!
It would be useful as i have stays coming up for my vacation.
Winning the Globalist status would mean so much to many. My needs for the status are no better than the next person, but I would really enjoy using the additional perks, especially after dealing with a back/hip issue that has been plaguing me for 4 1/2 years. My husband doesn’t travel (at all really), but once in a blue moon when he might actually go with me (our last vacation together was in 2006) I would like to show him how much he means to me, for taking care of me for these tough 4 years and being our sole provider for almost 3 years.
I collect a million or more miles through my business spending each year. I only spend them on travel and earning this many miles means that I can spend them on my friends and my family too. For my mom’s 60th I took her to Hong Kong in first class on JAL and we stayed in a Hyatt there that I used my Chase points to book. I have never had Hyatt status in my life but would absolutely make use of it. For valentine’s day this year I sent my business partner and his wife to Rome in first class on Lufthansa for the week and would have loved to have been able to hook them up with a good hotel there but alas I have no status with Hyatt to have done so. Every year at my company holiday party I give away a round trip domestic ticket for a spouse and and employee but have been unable to make a hotel stay part of the giveaway – but i would love to change that.
Finally this summer my dad turns 60 and I can’t leave him out of the travel. I want to take him to Singapore or Australia in first class on Singapore Airlines and I want to make it memorable which is why I am inviting my busy brother to join us. How awesome would it be to make sure we got a suite and enjoyed our time overseas?
Thank you!
I guess the status would definitely encourage me to stay at the great Hyatt Hotels. Until now I booked SPG-Hotel only.
Last year I had only used 1 of my suite night award, hopefully this year I will make use of the 4 I earned. If I won, maybe I will try to stay at Hyatt more often.
Just lost Diamond, so this would allow me to collect many more suite experiences
After receiving some unsettling health news I decided to ramp things up and make the most of my travel opportunities thanks to this hobby and a major part of this was maximizing my matched Hyatt Diamond status which just expired. And it has been great. My suite upgrade at the Park Hyatt New York was bigger than my former one-bedroom NY apartment plus it had a view of Carnegie Hall. The Andaz Savannah was also a treat. And those were just the main highlights. I will really miss being a Diamond-Globalist but I intend to make the most of Explorist
Dear Gary,
I travel a lot for a non-profit organization, too much, and this comes with more points that I can use. For a while now I use guest of honor privileges to redeem my points for those unique local individuals that work with us on the ground to support our health programs … just for one very special night. It is a the kind of gift that provides me with more joy than any free suite upgrade/Lounge or food allowance would ever give me in any hotel, even a Hyatt. Am now only Explorist for 2017/18 so this would help.
Thanks!
