GIVEAWAY: Top Tier Hyatt Status

World of Hyatt loyalty program changes start today.

Hyatt’s Top Elite Status Has Become Tougher to Get But More Valuable to Have

It’s harder to reach top tier elite status — no more qualifying on stays, no more credit towards top status via credit card spend, and 60 nights instead of 50 to qualify — for those who reach “Globalist” status it’s the most generous top tier in the industry among major programs.

And it’s even better on net than Hyatt’s Diamond status was before. While there are some tradeoffs (like breakfast for 2 adults and 2 children instead of 4 adults, and no more check-in amenity), there are real improvements:

  • My Hyatt Concierge – a dedicated agent to take care of all things related to Hyatt, similar to Starwood’s Ambassador (SPG requires 100 nights for this perk).

  • Upgrades at check-in now include standard suites.

  • Confirmed suite upgrades now valid on award nights, and you can earn more than 4 in a year — an additional suite upgrade or 10,000 points at 70, 80, 90, and 100 nights in a year.

  • A free night at any participating Hyatt property upon reaching 60 nights, waived resort fees, and free parking on award stays.

I’m Giving Away Top Tier Hyatt Status to a Reader

Hyatt offered me a Globalist status to give away. I’m not going to do the usual ‘answer a question in the comments and I’ll pick at random’ method. Instead what I’d love is for you to share why or how you’ll benefit from Hyatt Globalist status, and we’ll pick one winner based on the comments.

I’ve got someone who is going to choose for me. I’d love for the Globalist status to go to someone who will get good use out of it and find it meaningful. Entries close Tuesday, March 7 at Noon eastern. All decisions are final and unappealable, you agree that I’ll have no liability for offering this contest. I’m just trying to help a reader here, so please don’t give me a hard time!

What Gifted Globalist Will Get You — and What It Won’t

Gifted status doesn’t come with the perks that are earned based on night (or spend) thresholds. So it won’t come with the free night for reaching 60 nights, 4 confirmed suite upgrades, My Hyatt Concierge or reduced qualification requirements for the coming year (the need to stay 55 rather than 60 nights to keep status).

But you will receive:

  • Upgrades including suites subject to availability, as well as club lounge access
  • Breakfast in the hotel restaurant when no club lounge is available
  • Free parking on award stays, and no resort fees on paid stays
  • Guest of honor privileges, grant someone top tier status for their stay when you redeem your points for them
  • Priority early check-in and guaranteed 4pm check-out (doesn’t apply at resorts or casinos)
  • Daily bottle of water
  • Ability to match to MGM M life Rewards Gold status

  1. I’m a former airline pilot currently working for a corporate flight department. Our company donates use of our aircraft for sick children and their parents to use as time criticicl transportation through the Angel Flight network. As our way of attempting to match our company’s generosity, we try to donate enough points to each family to cover the stay at their destination while their child receives treatment. Globalist status will go a along way toward helping us provide accommodation and food (via lounge access) for these folks that we work with.

  2. By awarding me Globalist status, you would greatly improve my family relationships by giving me a little “street cred” with my teenager son. Believe it or not, having these perks might make me a “cool” person with him–an almost impossible feat.

We don’t get to travel for pleasure very often at all, so when I travel for business (which is pretty often) I always try to have my son come with me. He attends online high school (is a straight-A student and a member of the National Honor Society, and yes I brag), so his schedule mostly allows for travel. We always try to stay at Hyatt hotels, and have stayed at Hyatt House on two occasions recently. I walked in on him telling a friend the other day that the Hyatt House in Dallas was one of the best hotels he’s ever seen (and, thanks to my business travel, he’s seen quite a few top-tier hotels in his young life). He was impressed with the free food in the lobby (of course this was vitally important–he is a teenage boy, after all) and the outdoor sports court. He told his friend it was like having his own apartment because there was a living area and a full kitchen where he could stash extra food for later, and he had his own bedroom and bathroom. He said he barely even knew I was there (which I suspect was the STRONGEST factor in his very pleasant stay). He said Hyatt has the best hotels ever.

I would love to let Hyatt impress him even more, and Globalist status would certainly achieve that goal. It might not make me cool enough for him to actually CALL me a cool mom, but he might stop asking me to try NOT to hang around too much when his friends are over. He’s a great kid, but I am apparently (so far) REALLY UNcool. Please help me! : )

  3. I’m Diamond on Delta but haven’t locked into a hotel program. Hyatt makes sense for me as their locations are where I go. That’s an unusual statement for sure as they are more limited than some properties. I love their service and consider all of their properties top tier. They get it.

Incidentally, the Pritzker family (owners of Hyatt) lived next door to me. Maybe that is why I have a soft spot in my heart for them. Staying with Hyatt is like being a part of the family. If I couldn’t find my kids, they would often be under a Pritzker bed playing with a cat. Going to Hyatt is like coming home.

  4. I would love to visit new Park Hyatt Bangkok and use these benefits to stay Park Hyatt Syeney

  5. I am planning for a vacation in Hawaii for my family. Having Globalist status will give us either lounge access or breakfast which is usually very expensive in hotels in Hawaii.

  6. Earning elite status in most parts of Asia is pretty challenging, as there are no co-branded hotel cards, Hyatt elite status is a little harder with a smaller footprint. I had been able to maximise status matches in the past to obtain Hyatt Diamond status, so the key was to have my family members enjoy a taste of the great tier benefits, an amazing stay with family members at Hyatt Regency Etoile on a unbelievalbe room rate last year (courtesy of VFTW alert on the rate!) with a view of the Eiffel Tower and Arc, to suite upgrades to celebrate my 2 daughters’ birthday. Globalist status is almost impossible to earn for me without significant business travel opportunities, this gift will be very welcome in extending the benefits and sharing with others

  7. Hi Gary,

I co-founded a charity as a teenager back in 1999 that helps to improve education systems and increase youth employment around the world (schools in 153 countries have signed up for our programs)

While many international development grants allow a generous per diem, we always try to spend as little as needed during our travels and redirect as much as possible to the projects we run. I’ve learned a lot from your blog about maximizing points and last year we saved a lot of money by optimizing our points usage – for 2017 I even lost my Star Alliance Gold status for the first time in 12 years because I used points for so many trips!

In addition to the perk of being able to save money on breakfast during my travels (and being able to host partners and volunteers in an occasional suite or club lounge), we host many guests and volunteers at the Hyatt near our offices and the unique Guest of Honor benefit will allow us to save money and enjoy breakfast meetings during their stays!

Thank you very much for considering my entry, and thanks for Hyatt for the generous gift opportunity!

    Michael

  8. My little sister is going to university this year, I am hoping to travel with her in the summer and during school holidays and share with her more of the world that I have seen that she hasn’t had a chance to experience yet. It’s time for her to see the world!

  9. Having a 14 month old and access to breakfast options while traveling on the road is vital, eapecially without having a reliable refrigerator in most hotel rooms. Toddlers wake up starving after sleeping 12 hours and being on the road without great food options makes vacation tough!

  10. I had elite status from Hyatt, as well as other hotels and airlines. But due to a life-threatening cancer, and the resulting medical procedures to stem the aggressive cancer (including stem cell transplant, further hospitalization, chemotherapy and related treatments), I was unable to do my usual traveling for a couple years. Now I have just been cleared by my oncologist for travel, I would love to have the perks of Hyatt elite status to make my travel more comfortable and doable for my wife and me. Before the cancer diagnosis, I stayed at Hyatts worldwide — my favorites were the Park Hyatt in Shanghai, which was then the world’s tallest hotel, and the Park Hyatt in Sydney. I would like to resume going to Hyatts in comfort of Globalist status for whatever remaining time I have before an inevitable relapse that would preclude my ability to travel abroad.

  11. Thanks for the opportunity Gary! I’m so excited about my upcoming trip to South Africa to visit my family whom I haven’t seen for over 2 years and my parents are over 80 now. Points and miles make it a lot easier to visit!

We have a stop-over at the PH Dubai (that gorgeous pool made me fall in love with that hotel) and a night at the PH Milan. It would be so exciting to have the chance to get Suite upgrades. After those long flights to South Africa I’m going to need a wonderful night’s sleep and a delicious breakfast to keep up with my sweetie on our 20 hour lay-over in Milan. (Haha! He’s 5 years younger than me, this girl’s got to keep going)

  12. I’ve been fighting an autoimmune disease for several years, and have been mostly on bed rest–working a few days and going straight back to bed. I would love to start to take some weekends away, and start enjoying life again. It would be momentous to celebrate getting through this.

  13. As a new Hyatt Globalist elite member I would like to become Hyatt’s Evangelist explaining & promoting Hyatt’s new loyalty program and promoting the Hyatt Brand. Hyatt is my favorite hotel chain and would love the opportunity to express my passion and love for the Hyatt brand to all of my coworkers, colleagues, business partners and associates, family and friends.

  14. My husband and I are retiring soon – winning this would make our bucket list travels more enjoyable! We figure that the possible cuts to social security and Medicare in the future will cut into our travel budget. 🙁

  15. The gift of Globalist will encourage me to commit for the 60 nights needed to retain the status going forward. I look forward to a lasting relationship with Hyatt.

  16. I would milk it for everything it’s worth and then some. I’m not wealthy by any means (government job), but I travel well. It takes a lot of time and careful planning, but the dividends in the form of memories are so worth it. It’s become more difficult to travel, however, because my wife for some strange reason wants our three children to start traveling with us. That means I have to find creative ways to to stretch the value of my points and miles. So how would I maximize Hyatt globalist status? Simple. Free breakfast. I want to take my family to Costa Rica and stay at the Andaz Papagayo. The hotel is a sweet spot in the Hyatt program for sure, but have you seen the food prices? Good grief. My children consume obscene amounts of food. So anything I can do to put a dent in the food bill would be awesome!

In all seriousness, I could not travel the way I do without the information I get from this blog and others like it. Thank you.

  17. Winning this would make my year. Hyatt is my favorite chain of hotels and while I truly enjoyed their Diamond tier last year, I’ve dropped levels and miss the free suite upgrades, the breakfast and late checkout benefits. I have a few Hyatt stays coming up and would love to try the concierge, free upgrades at check in and also enjoy my MGM gold status for the Las Vegas trip. Honestly, this is an awesome giveaway and would love to win.

  18. Me and the wifey would love the status upgrade. We’re traveling the world one long weekend at a time and what a great way to put this use.

    Thanks

    J

  19. Globalist status would mean feeling like a VIP on my remaining bucket list trips. I have inoperable/incurable lung cancer and still have South Africa, Venice, Maui and Niagra Falls to scratch off (Bali in June). In conjunction with my priority pass airport lounge benefit (Sapphire Reserve Card), I’d really feel like a Very Important Person during all of my travels and would be forever grateful for this remarkable gift.

  20. I would love a hotel elite status that pairs nicely with my AA EXP status. Semi sweet please as it would juxtapose nicely with the dry benefits that come with EXP.
    Thank you

  21. This would be great for the romantic Paris vacation I’m taking with my girlfriend in May. We’ll be staying at the Park Hyatt Vendome which will already be by far the fanciest hotel we’ve ever stayed at. It would be sweet to make it even fancier.

  22. I’m a huge fan of the Hyatt brand especially their Park Hyatt and Andaz properties. I’ll be at the new Park Hyatt Bangkok in May and can’t wait to see what Yabu Pushelberg have done. Having been a Diamond member in the past I appreciate the graciousness of the added perks. But mostly I’d like to gift my sister the Guest of Honor status for her first overseas trip this fall to Paris.
And March 7th just happens to be MY birthday!

  23. We and our toddler 3 year old are staying at Andaz at Papagayo and a few other hyatt properties ( Calgary, Montego bay, Dubai, San antonio and Hawaii next year Feb)throughout the year. We end up ordering breakfast no matter how expensive because of our son , at the hotel itself. So the globalist status would put a good dent on our food expenses not to mention more space for our happy toddler to be happier in.

  24. Never really had status with a hotel chain so having one sounds incredible!! Would love to visit the executive lounges, a suite that I’ve never experienced as of yet. Will truly change travel for me.

  25. My Hyatt calendar is filling up this year, including two separate week long stays at Hyatt Regency Orlando for conferences, a week at the Hyatt Regency Vancouver for my wife’s birthday, and to top it all off, four nights at the Park Hyatt Tokyo in May.

I would absolutely get a lot of use out of use out of Hyatt status this year.

  26. Planning to travel to Maldives in Jan 2018 and it would be great to have access to the lounge and free breakfast coming with the status.

    Thanks!

  27. I’ll leverage the status to obtain a larger room and access to club lounge for my family and a few relatives at an upcoming family wedding in Louisville. Plus will ease the pain of my lost Diamond status 🙂

  28. I’m planning to stay at Park Hyatt Paris and I’m looking forward to ordering the breakfast benefit 🙂

  29. I would most like the Globalist status in order to have room service breakfast and a possible suite upgrade at the Park Hyatt Vienna for our 10th wedding anniversary.

  30. I’m writing this from the Park Hyatt Chicago, and I’ve always dreamed of what it’d be like to have true top-tier hotel status. Here’s hoping this is the chance!

  31. I’m moving with my family to. Uzbekistan for two years and would love to use this status whenever we take a vacation.

  32. I would benefit because I am staying I 5 park hyatts this year and they do not have clubs , so I would get the very expensive breakfast for my wife and I

  33. No sob story here. I do travel a lot for work , but the hotel choices are rarely mine , so I am lowest tier at about 4 chains, including Hyatt.

Would love to be able to take family along with me on a business trip and see what it is like to have top tier status at hotel , including a suite upgrade and breakfast. Even better if we could swing an actual vacation

  34. We want to instill the travel bug in our kids and travel around the world while staying at beautiful Hyatt resorts.

  35. I’ll be traveling heavily to Puerto Rico and Tanzania as we develop renewable energy and green building projects there this year. Those trips can be pretty tough, but at least I know I can always rejuvenate at the Hyatt! I’d use this to whittle down the [considerable] daily hassle factor that inevitably rears its head during projects like these…

  36. trying to convince my girlfriend to get into the points game. unfortunately she hasn’t been able to go on many trips with me. been dating for a year we’re finally taking an intl trip together to argentina. the park hyatt looks lovely there. would love for her to see what you can earn with hotels

  37. I would use the status to try out some great Hyatt properties. I have top elite status with IHG and Hilton but really want to move my business to Hyatt. Tough to start at the bottom. By being able to use the Globalist status I would really be able to compare and plan my 2018 Loyalty for my 100+ nights a year

  38. Every eve my wife and I must abstain from food while we slumber. In short, we fast. And when we bed down for the night at Hilton properties we are able to break our fast the next morning and feast on the finest scrambled eggs and bacon a mid-tier full service hotel has to offer. Alas, when we avail ourselves of Hyatt’s hospitality, there is no way to have “breakfast” and verily our bellies ache for ours until the midday meal.

I beseech you, Gary! Deliver me from my pitiful Discoverist status and allow my wife and I to break our fast at the Park Hyatt Vienna this summer!

  39. Would love to whip it out when I check-in at the Park Hyatt Vendome this summer while at the French Open!

  40. I’m traveling with my 1 yr old daughter to the park hyatt vienna. We would love to be upgraded to a suite via Globalist status!

  41. For family travel, we really like staying at the Hyatt Lost Pines. The suites are dated but very roomy, and as a previous Diamond, they would go the extra mile to make our stays really memorable. I once asked them to surprise us and they made gift bags for our kids and they provided a milk and cookie plate every afternoon during our stay. Access to their club lounge was so worth it since they provided an awesome breakfast, snacks throughout the afternoon, and great appetizers at night (which can be a meal in itself for the kids).

For business travel, I really enjoy my stays at the Hyatt Regency San Antonio. I’ve received multiple upgrades that was beyond the standard suites and again, their club lounge is great. If their coffee machine is not working, they’ll even give you free vouchers for the Starbucks coffee shop in their lobby.

  42. I’m planning an all-Hyatt Mediterranean summer vacation in Nice, Cannes, and Mallorca.

  43. I am the lucky recipient of a living kidney donation from my oldest daughter. She has since given me another gift with the birth of my first grandchild. I would like to take the opportunity of the bonus of these years of quality life to be able to travel with my family, now that I am able to. Though, there is no price you can place on a gift of an an organ that saves your life, the opportunity to use the time ahead to create lasting memories with my family is so important. I know that anything I can do to make memories with my granddaughter is so very important to me. I want to see the world through her eyes and leave her with wonderful experiences when I am gone. Winning this or not, I am already a winner in life.
