After the Las Vegas shooting massacre there were calls for limits to be placed on hotel ‘do not disturb’ signs even though there was no indication that a do not disturb sign played any role in the shooting.
This attempts to turn employees who are often the lowest paid and most overworked at a hotel — housekeepers — into frontline security. Guests who refuse them access would be confronted by management employees, not trained security professionals.

According to Loyalty Lobby Hilton will no longer honor Do Not Disturb signs for more than 24 hours.
He notes the following new working to be printed in guest directories in the room under the ‘guest privacy’ tab:
We understand and respect your need for privacy. The hotel reserves the right to visually inspect all guest rooms every 24 hours to ensure the well-being of our guests and confirm the condition of the room.
And cards that housekeeping will leave when the do not disturb sign is out and they came to service the room will say,
We understand and respect your need for privacy. The hotel reserves the right to visually inspect all guest rooms every 24 hours to ensure the well-being of our guests and confirm the condition of the room. If service is refused for this length of time, a member of hotel management will check on the guest room.
Already the Department of Homeland Security wants hotel employees including housekeepers to be on the lookout for sex trafficking and has a ‘you might be a sex trafficker if..’ list that includes bringing camera equipment and lots of electronics with you (bloggers), skipping housekeeping for several days (bonus points for ‘making a green choice’), and wearing low quality clothing (I’m not super fashionable). Paying with prepaid gift cards (for the miles) is another sign.
I don’t know how long a guest should go in a room without housekeeping. It seems unlikely that housekeeping entering despite a ‘do not disturb’ sign is going to uncover a rash of would-be mass shooters. There are over 5 million hotel rooms in the United States and the one shooter would change their tactics, especially since Hilton is printing on their materials that they are going to enter.
Or they’ll just choose limited service extended stay properties that do not offer daily housekeeping.
What this move probably will turn up though is grass, mescaline, blotter acid, cocaine, uppers, downers, raw ether and amyls.
I bet you we will start to see a fee for housekeeping due to this.
Where are the republicans, trump deplorables, “freedom fighters” when you need one?
They were all in arms when somebody tried to limit the size of soda sold in New York, but anything goes as long as it comes from the deplorable-in-chief.
I hear the housekeepers first line of defense will be told to run, hide or fight guests
depending on the situation ;);)
I think this is to send a message to potential shooters that Hilton’s high security will be on your trail
So watch out and don’t even think about it
Will they actually put a wooden nickel into actual real security? probably not
As an old guy who travels a lot I always feel that the Do Not Disturb sign is a mixed blessing, I generally don’t use it. If I slipped in the shower or even had a heart attack, how long would I lay there before help arrived? I prefer a slight intrusion to my privacy to being imobalized with no hope of help.

Why, Gary?!? You seem pretty knowledgeable in that matter… 😉
“It’s for your own good.” “Well, what if I slip and fall and nobody comes?” “It’s for security reasons; if you have nothing to hide, you should have no reason to protest–because well, it’s for security, safety, your own good, if you fall down…” And on and on. Why don’t we just admit we don’t give a damn for liberty, for privacy, the right to be left alone? That the “free” and “brave” in this country simply lack the balls to face life? As it is–with all its “what ifs”? Admit we do not live in the land of the free and brave and just ask Hilton, et.al., to put security cameras in the rooms and bathrooms just to be on the safe side? Hmmm? And this is a question I put specifically to the “men” in this country who by the millions have allowed freedom, little by little, to die–no, to be killed–by the political class who use fear ad nauseam to get the “brave” in this country to hand it over–willingly so they feel “safe”.
