This morning I wrote about New York or Boston to several European cities, flying back from Lisbon, for $340 roundtrip.
It turns out that SecretFlying found an even cheaper fare.
Fly New York or Boston to London, then fly back Lisbon to New York (with a final segment to Canada that you don’t have to take) for $268.
The first try I plugged in came back at a fare of $282.
- Travel is on Star Alliance member TAP Air Portugal
- Use multi-city search. Return from Lisbon to either Montreal or Toronto
- You can route back to Canada via New York or Boston and get off the plane there, throwing away the Canada segment.
This will be bookable through most online systems, such as Orbitz, since it comes up using ITA Software searches.
It’s even possible to check bags, since when you arrive back in New York or Boston you have to claim your bags and walk them through customs before dropping your bags back off for the flight to Canada. Instead of dropping off your bags, you just leave the airport in New York or Boston. That’s called ‘Throwaway Ticketing’ and the New York Times Ethicist column says it’s ethical.
In any case don’t buy other non-refundable travel based on these tickets for a few days to make sure TAP Air Portugal honors the sale.

Is there a sector missing from this, IE London back to Lisbon??
Booked this two days ago and TAP canceled itinerary claiming that Lisbon-Montreal was not a legal routing (not a routing TAP flies)
Two exclamation points! Nice.
Not Bookable. Clickbait
This cheaper deal has found Fly4free: http://www.fly4free.com/deal/usa-and-canada/open-jaw-flights-from-the-usa-to-paris-barcelona-madrid-and-lisbon-with-return-to-canada-from-268/
I booked it, so you’re an idiot Jimmy.
As @Michael say, the sector London-Lisbon is missing. Do you make your own separate arrangements? If so, this takes the gloss of this otherwise cheap itinerary.
