Hyatt’s new promotion (registration required) will offer 2000 points every two nights stayed March 1 through June 15 (2500 points for Hyatt co-brand credit card customers) plus a free category 1-4 night after 10 nights stayed during the promotion period.
- 2000 bonus points every 2 qualifying nights (which do not have to be consecutive) from March 1 – June 15, 2021
- All Hyatt brands plus participating MGM Resorts, Small Luxury Hotels of the World and Lindblad Expeditions are eligible
- Co-brand cardmembers get an additional 500 bonus points per two nights
- And everyone can earh a Category 1-4 free night award after their first 10 qualifying nights during the promotion (earn this only once)
The basic ‘2000 points every two nights’ isn’t as good as a thousand points per night, but the easiest way to think about the value is on a per-night basis.
Break-even with ‘double points’ is on an average room rate of $200 per night, so it’s easy to come out ahead compared to double points at 2000 points every 2 nights (let alone 2500 points for Hyatt credit card cardmembers)
I’ve valued Hyatt points at 1.4 cents apiece so 2000 points would be worth $28, 2500 points worth $35. Divide that by two to get your average nightly rebate provided you stay an even number of nights during the promotion period.
The real kicker of value, of course, is the additional free category 1-4 night on top of the bonus points. This is earned after staying 10 nights, and is valid for stays within 180 days once credited to your account. Free nights do count towards elite status and promotion earning.
