Hyatt’s New Promotion: Up To 1250 Points Per Night Plus A Free Night After 10 Nights

Hyatt’s new promotion (registration required) will offer 2000 points every two nights stayed March 1 through June 15 (2500 points for Hyatt co-brand credit card customers) plus a free category 1-4 night after 10 nights stayed during the promotion period.

  • 2000 bonus points every 2 qualifying nights (which do not have to be consecutive) from March 1 – June 15, 2021
  • All Hyatt brands plus participating MGM Resorts, Small Luxury Hotels of the World and Lindblad Expeditions are eligible
  • Co-brand cardmembers get an additional 500 bonus points per two nights
  • And everyone can earh a Category 1-4 free night award after their first 10 qualifying nights during the promotion (earn this only once)

The basic ‘2000 points every two nights’ isn’t as good as a thousand points per night, but the easiest way to think about the value is on a per-night basis.

Break-even with ‘double points’ is on an average room rate of $200 per night, so it’s easy to come out ahead compared to double points at 2000 points every 2 nights (let alone 2500 points for Hyatt credit card cardmembers)

I’ve valued Hyatt points at 1.4 cents apiece so 2000 points would be worth $28, 2500 points worth $35. Divide that by two to get your average nightly rebate provided you stay an even number of nights during the promotion period.

The real kicker of value, of course, is the additional free category 1-4 night on top of the bonus points. This is earned after staying 10 nights, and is valid for stays within 180 days once credited to your account. Free nights do count towards elite status and promotion earning.

  1. Wow. I’m already sitting on 6 free cat 1-4 nights and thanks to the last bonus and carry over at 94 nights already in ’21.

Diminishing returns after 100 nights so planned to focus on Marriott & Hilton.

Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in!

  2. I guess nothing in our future will approach the generosity of the Bonus Journeys promotion that ends February 28. It was quite a ride while it lasted. They won my business for 15 days of glorious vacation time at a mostly empty Hyatt Regency Maui at the lowest net cost I’ve seen in decades.

  3. OK, just realized it is 1 cat 4 after the first 10 nights. Not 1 for every 10. Which clearly was outlined in the post, my bad. Still solid. But not nearly as insanely amazing as the last promo. Triple points, double nights, 25% rebate on redemptions.

Still enough to make me keep Hyatt at the top of the rotation.

  4. Reading the terms and conditions this promo appears to apply even when “redeeming a free night award.”

Does that mean a free night certificate or also a free stay using points?

  5. Do nights using points count (not a free night certificate)? So, ten nights at a category one will cost 50,000 points, then I’ll get back 12,500 (as a Hyatt credit card holder) and earn a free night certificate?

  6. @ UA-NYC, you’re a big help. Thanks for your input. If it was so clear then why do people still have questions? The T&Cs does do differentiate between free night using points and free nights using certificates.

  7. Even as Hyatt hotel occupancy during this pandemic is down way below what it was in the year after 9/11and then some, Hyatt’s loyalty program was more generous with providing a rebate then than Hyatt has been during this pandemic with much lower occupancy levels.

Remember the faster free night promos where any two eligible stays came with a free night at any property? Remember all those property-specific G bonuses that came with 500-2000 bonus Hyatt points at the same time? Hyatt in the early 2000s after 9/11 was when Hyatt was generous. Now Hyatt is only relatively generous because its “competitors” have also become way more miserly in an environment where the market has become more concentrated and more akin to an oligopoly than was the case in the early 2000s.

  8. @pm – extremely difficult to understand this from the Hyatt site, I know:

    6. What is an Eligible Night?

For the purpose of this promotion, an “Eligible Night” is defined as any night where a member is paying an Eligible Rate or redeems a Free Night Award for at least one (1) night of their stay.

  9. @UA-NYC Exactly. Does a “Free Night Award” refer to point redemptions, free night certificates, or both?
