Inside London Heathrow’s Best Oneworld Business Lounge—Qantas Marble Stunner With A La Carte Dining Beats American, BA

The Qantas lounge is the best business class lounge option in London Heathrow’s Terminal 3 for oneworld. The Cathay business class lounge is good! But during the hours where Qantas is doing sit down dining it’s a cut above. And it’s certainly better than the British Airways and American Airlines lounges.

This is an elegant lounge with barista-made coffee and an a la carte dining option downstairs. There are showers, and an upstairs buffet.

Unfortunately I didn’t get to try the sit down dining options, because that doesn’t start in the morning until 9:30 a.m. and boarding for my flight commenced at 9:40 a.m. (I did consider putting in an order right at 9:30 a.m., the walk time to the gate and that I did not actually need to be first to board, but with family in tow decided against.)

The lounge is about 13,000 square feet across two levels with a capacity for 250 passengers. The ground floor has sit down dining and a bar.

The upstairs has more and more varied seating areas.

There’s also a buffet upstairs, but that’s pretty mid.

Upstairs you’ll also find another bar.

The upstairs has a VIP room and a family room as well.

Between marble bars and the staircase between the two levels (there’s also an elevator) the downstairs portion of the lounge is stunning. Upstairs I’m not as keen on – definitely more of a business class lounge vibe – but it’s also more spacious.

There have been plans for a Qantas first class lounge in the terminal. This was announced in 2023, with a projected opening in 2025 (!) but that project is delayed and as far as I know there’s been no announced location, let alone construction. So I’d be surprised to see it before 2028 (hopefully it will open with Project Sunrise non-stop flights to Australia?).

Until then at least the Cathay Pacific first class lounge next door is the best option for oneworld emeralds and first class passengers flying with oneworld airlines out of T3, while the Qantas lounge is the best business class option if sit down dining is running (while the Cathay business class lounge noodle bar arguably trumps it at other hours). The good news, of course, is that the Qantas and Cathay lounges are directly beside each other.

Since it was right next to the Cathay lounge, I used that primarily and only stopped in here for a short bit to refresh my recollection on the space. Regardless, it’s great to have this lounge available as part of the London Heathrow repertoire.

  1. Agreed, Gary; if you have access Qantas and Cathay are far superior to AA and BA at LHR T3. Like, American really should be ashamed of its joke of a ‘Flagship’ there; time for a renovation!

  2. I can tell you where the best lounges are. Always in the terminal I am not flying out of. (But spot on review for LHR T3.)

  3. Nice! Probably the most comfortable looking chairs I’ve seen. I agree, the food doesn’t look too impressive.

  4. @L737 — Apparently, Gary was there at breakfast time… hence the mushrooms and tomatoes… we don’t tend to eat those in the USA (thanks to all our ‘freedom’). Like, where’s the bacon?! Throw some tea in tha haabaa!
