News and notes from around the interweb:
- Police beefs and drama at New York JFK
- Southwest Airlines is considering a new seat and expects a decision late this year or early next.
- 787,800 miles for a one way upgrade to Europe from premium economy to business class on Delta. Delta’s VP of SkyMiles did actually explain why they don’t try hard to deliver top value for their miles.
- And I have to wonder, would anybody who booked coach to begin with pay $3479 to upgrade a 509 mile flight operated by a regional jet?
- Many Southwest Rapid Rewards members have an offer in their account for 10,000 miles or 4 months of A-List elite status when booking a single trip through a business booking portal.
- Washington state civil rights commission finds Alaska Airlines ‘masculine and feminine’ uniform choice requirements discriminate against non-binary flight attendants
At least Delta uncapped the amount of redeemable miles you can earn if you’re paying over $8,000 cash for an upgrade. Penalizing customers who were stupid enough to spend top-dollar with Delta never made sense.
Delta is just like all of the GREEDY car dealerships that add greed fees on top of the sticker price.
I hope they burn in hell.
I’ve learned a long time ago that DL has no loyalty, and doesn’t care about loyalty. And now I see they have no decency, either.
I agree gender is not binary. I disagree we should accommodate anyone who doesn’t identify with a binary choice.
Everybody pees. Do you do it out of a d**k? You are male. End of discussion. Maybe you have huge t*ts long hair and a super high voice I don’t give a damn. If you are not male, you will be considered female. You may not be as female as other females. But you are going to be female for all intents and purposes, and we are going to stop the nonsense about “all gender”. We are not going to accommodate 100% of society. We are not going to try, and we are not going to feel bad about it.
I cannot help but wonder about the missing logic in mileage fares that are priced at 400,000 miles (and/or more) for a flight in business class.
Given the outrageous quantity of miles required, why would anyone, who thinks, be tempted to get a new credit card that offers 75,000 miles or more for a bonus?
There are occasional mileage flights offered that make sense, but not often anymore.
Wow, and I thought the $350 ask upgrades on the 30-minute hops from BNA to ATL were bad… When asking $3,500 for an upgrade on a 500-mile flight that’s not even on mainline, it’s clear that RM doesn’t want to sell the upgrade and is instead trying to hold the seat for people booking connections to/from expensive Delta One flights (on both sides in the case of JFK-DTW.) May as well just not make it available as listing a price of $3,500. But I guess that might mean that then they couldn’t get business from people like the Mayor of New Orleans…
They probably have some people who have travel contracts/policies allowing them to book F on the company (or government) dime no matter what the price, so they just go ahead and list an absurd price that makes it worthwhile for them to sell the seat even if it means they lose a $4k or so connecting Delta One ticket sale.
Not sure what is going on – there is a JFK to DTW listed, and JFK to ZHR. Delta doesn’t fly DTW to ZHR, so not sure how the two is connected (is one price quoting the outbound transatlantic trip, and one price quoting the inbound Connection)?
The simple answer here is that close in, Delta (and other airlines) are selling business class to Europe at 8, 9, 10K round trip given the strong demand, so prices reflect that.
I’m glad I got in on the fall flash sale a couple of months ago. I’m booked 74K miles each way in business from JFK to BCN using SkyPesos. And this will be the trip that pushes me to Diamond, given I now earn elite miles / spend credit on award redemptions. I keep my SkyMiles balance pretty low (100K or lower) because I am constantly redeeming at 1.2 to 1.4 cents domestically, or booking international flash sales, all the time. Also buying drinks at the SkyClub. Use your SkyMiles wisely, I know I do.
Where’s the 3000+ word treatise defending DL?
(maybe some things are indefensible)
it’s a free market. Anyone can choose to buy or not as they choose.
I love getting screwed over by Delta greed till I bleed
The more I get overcharged the happier I am
Stupid and dumb in Atlanta and proud.
Just cant give them enough of my wallet.
Re Washington state and Alaska Airlines: Don’t stop at masculine or feminine — I want to see uniform options for furries.
Non-binary uniform is a great idea, much better than even “my pronouns” badge. One can spot them from a distance and act accordingly
In a free society, the situation would be easy. Choose this one or that one. If you choose neither, then you’re fired.
Washington state is nuts. Alaska airlines needs to tell them to go pound sand. Make everyone wear pants no facial hair no lipstick no earrings any where no tattoos showing no makeup color s. No color hair nothing make them all bland and then tell them why. Because of the lawsuit. See that guy leave fast they will all hate him
If it makes my flight attendant happier and provide better service if he strolls down the aisle wearing a skirt and lipstick along with his beard, that’s a win as far as I’m concerned.
I have no problem with whatever my attendant wants to wear, as long as they are identifiable and get me to an exit when there’s an emergency.
