News and notes from around the interweb:
- Julio Iglesias had 92 pounds of groceries seized from his luggage at the Punta Cana airport
Spanish artist Julio Iglesias has had his luggage seized by airport officials in the Dominican Republic after a huge stash of local produce was uncovered.

- Why do women like to travel more than men?
- Siberian airlines seek to keep flying 50-year-old jets amid Russian plane shortage
- You laugh but this correlation makes just as much sense as the 1,500 hour rule for pilots.. (In fact, pilot rest rules enacted at the same time are helpful, though not fully responsible.)

- Love this.
@AmericanAir flight 2460 BOS -> PLS. A lovely flight attendant named Heidi helped my wife and I out by taking our distressed infant for a walk. She was great the whole flight too. We can’t thank her enough. pic.twitter.com/PrxCPW6pO3

- This should have been done on the 50-year old C concourse.

After years of trying to get my husband to travel, I just announced I was heading out. As long as I didn’t make him go along, it was fine by him.
I’ll be gone anywhere from 3 weeks to 3 months at a time. He lives vicariously through my adventures without having to deal with the hassles of travel.
Now my daughter does the same, sometimes with me, sometimes solo.
People in other countries do seem fascinated that a married woman is off traveling by herself but I just tell them it’s a vacation for both of us.
AN-24 was actually designed back in 1957 and I doubt that originally it had any western parts. Hopefully for some of the latter modifications flying today, there is western avionics etc. So it should not be too difficult to maintain those 50-year-old planes even with sanctions, except, perhaps, the parts originally made in Ukraine. Note that recently DL was flying a 34-old B757 and I am sure that the DL airframe went through much more decompression cycles when compared to the Siberian AN-24/26.
If you consider a pleasurable trip versus a not pleasurable trip, you can also see why women are more inclined to fly than men in today’s age. At one time men flying for work were a big part of the flying public and not one that would always be considered pleasurable. That ends up in the person sometimes not finding pleasure in flying outside of work. Fortunately, women on average have most likely had a greater percentage of their trips be pleasurable. This creates a positive feedback when considering future travel.
The story on Russian airplanes had some interesting comments. It seems that some commenters don’t understand what a turboprop engine is. Internally it is a turbine engine (jet engine) designed to provide power for a propeller through a gearbox. The propeller will provide most of the thrust and the design is often very fuel efficient. This is in contrast to low bypass turbo fan jet engines often used on military aircraft and high bypass turbofan jet engines used on fuel efficient passenger airplanes. These turbofans have internal fans instead of external propellers to use engine power to make extra thrust from air not going through the combustion area.
