Two American Airlines passengers tried to force their way onto a flight from Miami to Cancun since they were running late. It appears they rushed the gate.
Just prior to departure of American Flight 2494, one of the passengers hurled a cup of coffee at an employee. Law enforcement vehicles responded with six sheriff’s deputies on the tarmac. One can be seen in video instructing the female passenger to sit in a chair while other officers subdued her companion and placed him into a vehicle. Charges include trespassing, resisting an officer, and battery.
Looks like they won’t be flying the friendly skies today…✈️☕️| #ONLYinDADE
*A couple flying to Mexico from MIA arrived too late to board their plane and tried to force their way past the airport staff. This led to a confrontation, during which the man fought with the gate… pic.twitter.com/kFx2jEqFQq

According to American Airlines,
Prior to boarding American Airlines flight 2494from Miami (MIA) to Cancun (CUN), law enforcement responded to the gate for two disruptive customers. Acts of violence are not tolerated by American Airlines and we are committed to working closely with law enforcement in their investigation.
So, pretty much an average day working the Miami airport.

Definitely just another day at MIA. #MIAmemories
What the hell man. Throwing coffee at someone? Really?
And that having to be wrestled to the ground… what could be going through that dude’s head at that point? There’s nowhere go go… even if he was all greased up, the officers couldn’t get a grip on him to wrestle him down, he took off down that thing and got on the plane it’s not like they were going to take off with him on board anyway. Sheesh, keeping it classy.
“Now with new “Lucha Libre” flights!
When did Ed start flying non-revenue on AA with his BFF?
We’re No.1 with a bullet!
“Charges include trespassing, resisting an officer, and battery.” Enough said. So, to those who were advocating for violence (@AC, @me, @Thumper, @Digging the Hole Deeper) in the other recent post (about the two-year-olds), this is what happens when you ‘take matters into your own hands’ (regardless of a gate agent that is misapplying a rule unfairly against you). Do not escalate. It often ends poorly. If you’re upset about missing your flight, there’s a better way then to end up in jail.
Always check in for your flight at least two hours prior to departure, not at the last minute.
I’d love to hear these whackos lay out how they thought this was going to work..
“I figured the hot coffee would distract the GA enough for me to juke past them, and then I was going to hit the jets and disappear into the crowd on a 737…we’d be sipping margaritas by the pool laughing about the whole thing by lunchtime.”
Well they will spend their vacation first getting booked, then waiting to see a judge for bond, just to find out they’ve been banned from flying AA. Can’t cure stupid.
@Lars: “how they thought” requires a brain. They clearly don’t posses analytic skills.
People need to realize that you can get into the next flight with AA if you missed it and if you ask nicely. I missed my SFO-FLL basic eco flight and agent rebooked me for the next flight for free. Don’t know if I got lucky but using your be-nice-and-ask card helps.
I also missed a connection with my United basic economy flight SFO-LAS and I was surprised that the app started suggesting of the next flights I can take within 24 hours without fees.
