LAX Is Looking For Volunteers To Help Them Stress Test Their New Concourse

LAX is nearing completion of its Midfield Satellite Concourse. This is a 12 gate extension connected to the Tom Bradley International Terminal via a 1000 foot tunnel. As the airport prepares to open this new concourse this year they are looking for 500 people to become actors, playing the role of passenger. This will let them stress test the terminal,

  • Does the signage let people know how to navigate the terminal properly?
  • Do all the toilets flush?
  • Can people get through at peak times, with different ages and varying abilities descending on the place at once?

Emergency responders will be on hand – there will probably be volunteers who lose a child, or pretend to break a leg. Will all the equipment in the terminal work? What happens if a jetbridge isn’t functional?

People selected for the test will be emailed scenarios the day before they are due to appear. On the day of their assignment, fake passengers will meet at an assembly point, put on a distinctive uniform (think something in unflattering orange, so they can be easily identified) and then mix in with other passengers to play their given role.

Volunteers can expect to be on-site for about half a day, and will be provided with beverages and a meal.

You can volunteer here, play act, and be one of the first people to see the new concourse before it opens, currently projected for summer.
